If Big Willie Style really wants to work for QT, he'll lower his price.

I like both Will Smith and Quentin Tarantino but I'm not too sure how the former is gonna fit into the latter's cinematic world; their styles just don't appear to be compatible with one another. Then again, I felt the same way about Tarantino working with Brad Pitt until I saw Inglourious Basterds and realized that how perfectly it worked. Tarantino has always been balls-on with his instincts as far as actors so if he does cast Will Smith, I have no doubts that he'll know how to perfectly utilize the actor. As for Mr. Smith, if he does want to add to his credibility as an actor, I would lower my salary demands or waive them altogether for the opportunity to work with Tarantino. If Pitt could do it for Guy Ritchie, then why not?

Well he's not going to waive his salary demands altogether. I'm pretty sure actors get paid in Quentin Tarantino movies.

But he's not getting no $25 million either

That's fairly shocking. Will Smith strikes me as someone who micromanages his clean cut image and I would never have associated him with a QT movie. Either way, he doesn't strike me as the right choice. At all.

In the meantime I'll be repeating Josh's mantra. Often.

Boom! I said it before you, Bill Simmons. Not that Bill Simmons will ever read this. Or, has he?

In any case, multiple sources have reported that the lead is Jamie Foxx. This is old news, but I'm wondering how Reelviews feels about this choice. I've really soured on Foxx post-Oscar win both because of his subsequent choices and because his behaviour in the last few years has been very douchey. I'll continue to give Tarantino the benefit of the doubt, but someone like Idris Elba would have pleased me more than a "movie star".

Wait. Are you Bill Simmons!?!?

I agree with your take nearly word for word. On Foxx, on QT, and on Elba. I just don't very much care for Jamie Foxx at this point, but I have to trust Tarantino knows what he's doing.

Has anyone else read the plot details for this movie? It sounds good, but pretty similar to Inglorious Bastards. Replace killing Nazis with killing slave owners. I'm sure it will turn out to be pretty different once its all throw together though.

Also, from what I've read Christopher Waltz and Leonardo Dicaprio are almost certainly in it as well.

No.[1]

[1] At least I don't think so. Who knows what happens when I go to sleep. However, he's a far better writer so I highly doubt it. Maybe I'm Armond White??

Yes, I've heard both of those names before and am excited by the rest of the casting (if it's official). I'm especially interested in Waltz because he's allowed himself to be typecast as a villain after IB so we'll finally get to see him as a protagonist of sorts.

Most movie plots are frightfully similar to one another. Even if this ends up being a point-by-point structural rip from IB, it'll still be more original than most of the plot reshufflings we get... even the really good ones.

(Movies are much, much, much more than their plots, which is why plot regurgitation rarely matters.)

/Film is reporting that Kevin Costner is currently in negotiations for a role:

I don't think Costner is very well regarded on this forum, so the reactions should be interesting if this turns out to be true.

Honestly, I don't actually mind Costner. I think he's often miscast as a heroic leading man but he can do well in the right role. I followed your link and this is what it says about the prospective part:

He’s the sadistic trainer of the male fighting slaves who entertain the white patrons of Candyland as well as the female slaves who are forced to be prostitutes. The club and ranch are owned by Calvin Candie (DiCaprio) and Ace Woody is the one who pits the “mandingo” fighters against one another, and has little qualms about mistreating and even killing the slaves who don’t measure up. The roles that DiCaprio and Costner will play are every bit as sadistic as the one that Waltz played in Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds.

I could see Costner doing a decent job here.

I don't mind Costner either. Sure, he's had his uninspired moments, but given the right role he can certainly deliver, and has done so multiple times (Field Of Dreams, Silverado, Thirteen Days, Tin Cup, Tony Scott's Revenge, Clint Eastwood's A Perfect World). It will be interesting seeing how both him and Dicaprio handle their villain roles.

That is the role that Leonardo Dicaprio was supposed to play. I'd be pretty disappointed about that. Not because I mind Costner but because I would much rather have Dicaprio in that role.

If Tarantino were to cast Zac Efron, Adam Sandler, Keenan Ivory Wayans, and John McCain in a movie, I wouldn't be dissuaded. Mike Myers's performance in Inglourious Basterds was barely distracting at worst, so he officially has my trust.

Click the link. I'm pretty sure Dicaprio is still in the movie. Even if he's not, Costner's part wasn't who Dicaprio was supposed to play.

I'm with you on the point you're making here, but I also think you'd be quite dissuaded if he actually did cast all of those people in the same film. Oddly enough, he wanted Adam Sandler to play The Bear Jew in IB initially. I would have loved to see that.
