I fiercely defend the right of people to say what they want to say. However, just because you can say what you like doesn't mean that you should say something if it's in extremely poor taste. Doesn't matter if it's a joke because words can and do hurt.

For the record I actually think that Daniel Vettori is one of the best bowlers in world cricket.

1. People who insert 'you should get (professional) help' during a debate/quibble about housework/movies, etc. Shit, if not mowing the lawn by 3 pm drives you to accuse people of mental instability, you should probably be the one sitting in a therapist's chair. And no, your degree in BA is not qualification for psychological analysis. Go back to the retailer hell from whence you spawned, you presumptuous cock. Fuck you.

2. White liberal assholes who force conversations with blacks into apologist territory, or change their ENTIRE personality while talking to people of another race. I think racism is silly, and being partly a nihilist with alot of my ideals, a hopeless pursuit, but when you treat someone differently as a result of their racial make-up, you are still making decisions based on race. And that means that you're still a racist, even if it essentially hurts no one. Grow a clue.

3. Trivial things that people WILL NOT BUDGE ABOUT. Ever wonder why the Middle East is a warring hellhole? Ask Dad how he feels about Barack Obama after he's absorbed ten straight hours of Fox News after a hard day's work. You may gain a nugget of understanding.

4. 40 year old guys who make quips about 'The Self-Esteem Generation': This is delusional, high-school shit. The past 60-70 years of US history have been one generation after another bemoaning how pathetic and alarming the generation after it is. I'm sorry, but I owe the 30 year old guy at BP dick for the world I live in, and owe my seventy-something relatives much the same. People have been, are, and will continue to be sheep as our nation enters its iron age. And when it comes to sheep, I can afford not to be picky.

5. Men. We are entirely useless. Truth. I love being a guy, but I can't deny that I essentially serve no point but to fuck up the world a little more than it's already been. If all men do die out (which science is beginning to predict), here's guessing people will cope.

Agreed. So to my list I add.

Baby Boomer Nostalgia. A local casino runs an ad that's designed to appeal to nostalgic boomers. Specifically it talks about how 70s-circa 1983-85 classic rock was so much better than what came after: "YOU remember the days when Idol meant Billy, the only Pink was in Floyd".

I once vowed that when I reached the age my parents were (middle age) when I was a teenager I would not tell my kids how things were so much better when I was a teenager.

Nostalgia is often based on an idealized view of how things were rather than a realistic one. If one becomes nostalgic for the 60s, it's usually based on the music, psychedelic experiences and free love. That leaves out the dark side of the equation: namely Vietnam, 3 major assassinations, segregation and so on.

Like Phil said, every generation loathes the one that came after. In my family you have my father who was born just prior to the baby boom and yours truly who was born just under the Gen X wire. But ahead of Gen Y. While I would fit in more easily with Gen X than Y, I don't really have any strong desire to fit in with either to be perfectly blunt. I could see a Gen X nostalgia ad similar to the one I referenced earlier that begins with: "Do you remember when...(Insert reference to popular Gen X band)". While I might be inclined to agree that Gen X favored better music than Gen Y did, I would also point out that most of Gen X's "heroes" either self-destructed or got ripped to shreds. Groupthink is one thing I've always loathed. And generational groupthink is one prime example of things deserving to be loathed.

I'm third when it comes to the "In my generation..." argument; another thing is the Anthony Weiner coverage. When you get down to it, his only crime was that he was married. If he was single, then fair game, no issue from me.

I'm also getting sick of hearing about the guy, can't say I really feel sorry for him though. I'm also tired of hearing about the Casey Anthony murder trial.

Anyone hurt by words does not belong on the internet, and yes my comment was to upset you for a bit of a laugh.

<-- Actually is a Sunni with vague marrage links to Saddam Husain.

Ps, Sports are for dudes who are a little to keen on close contact with other sweaty guys.
