When I saw it, I was pissed on how much nudity wasn't in it! A strip monopoly game without real stripping!

I won't spoil it, but no mention of the most infamous scene in the whole film? I still get creeped out by that

Nevertheless, another great review by the master of the web. You have stated what I can safely call the definitve last word on an undeserved 'classic'.

Hi there,

I had really hoped that this was not going to get a 3* review. I saw it at the cinema when it came out and was excited by the gore and mayhem. However, revisiting it a few years later saw me downgrade it considerably.

The UK critic Mark Kermode (who I respect) is a horror film expert and he reckons that the first film is way over rated. He seems to really like the 3rd film in the series!

If you had a score that could only be described as Disco-riffiic, you see what it's awesome.

Then you have a movie to see so you can stop being confused, Mr. Bond

Even though it's defiantly not the greatest film of all time, or horror film for that matter, or even horror film set in a camp ("Sleepaway Camp" anyone?), it still manages to provide some small thrills when watching it, but I think those are primarily a result of the terrific score.

Anybody else always find themselves damning films like this with faint praise?

"Friday the 13th was bad, but it wasn't near as bad as..."

I think FT13th was a poorly made, low-budget slasher film...but it's nowhere near as bad as a) most of its sequels; b) most other 80s slasher films, the Nightmare and Evil Dead series excluded; c) virtually ALL of the PG-13 Japanese horror remake nonsense and torture porn coming out these days.

Based on those attributes alone, I could also see myself giving the original FT13th ** and still feel pretty good about myself.

Strict horror films by their nature are base. No matter how atmospheric or artistic the film, it is trying to acheive the same objective as Friday the 13th. I for one like the first sequal as a horror film.

If you're going by the latest podcast, I'm pretty sure he said it was the best of that wave of 3d movies. When your competition is Jaws 3d and The Amityville Horror 3d, that's not necessarily saying much...

Meh, I never liked this film much at all and found it very overrated, i'd give it like a 1.5.

Gotta agree with the review. I didn't actually catch this movie till my twenties or so, and was surprised by the all fuss. I had seen "Halloween" first and enjoyed it, but this one just had me laughing and making comments about Kevin Bacon and his exit.

I'd have to agree on the first Friday the 13th but am I crazy in believing that part 2 was far more effective.

Not that crazy even if it's another 5/10 movie but I liked it more than the first

One of the problems with a movie like this, is that it looses its sting over the years with the many other copycats that have come out over the last 25 years. The shocks have been taken away by word of mouth and the gore have been bested by others. (Although a good old axe to the face still has some impact. )Halloween 1978 suffers a bit as well. Personally I still love the movie for the atmosphere and creepy pasing. Part 2 is my favorite.
