 Re: BATTLE LOS ANGELES
Save our planet from movies like this! I guess 2 1/2 stars because it employed some people during this recession.
First take I thought it was a satirical action comedy, like Airplane or Hot Shots. BUT then I realized it wasn't suppose to be a comedy, I think, still not sure. Must be a comedy and a pathetic attempt .The reality, Aliens have taken over LA, I mean Hollywood. Really!, They must have made this movie to throw us off track. I hope that is the excuse!!!!. The aliens (Hollywood) complied and used the absolute worst from all previous alien motion pictures. Every terrible cliche', worst dialogue, lost continuity, no real content, and no imagination! Talk about beings from another planet, apparently the people who THREW this together are from another galaxy and not in touch with the human race. Come down to earth! This piece of film, is a real Battle of your Mind, trying to find entertainment value for over an hour and 1/2. Its worst than brain freeze. At least brain freeze goes away quickly, but with Battle of Los Angeles, maybe in a decade or two, I can learn to forget the agony of sitting through mindless dribble.

Holy crap. Is this Vexer's evil twin with his "bizarro" taste in movies but the same level of hyperbole? Actually I caught this flick yesterday and I found it to be an enjoyable diversion. To be sure it is not great "cinema" and borrows heavily from other films, but it is great spectacle. At the beginning the aliens land in the water and start coming ashore as infantry. For the first 1/2 day of combat the humans have air superiority. Then the aliens establish a command center and are able to direct unmanned....er...unaliened...airborne drones into the action.

 Re: BATTLE LOS ANGELES
This flick was totally Black Hawk Down... ...right down to the ending where the warriors reload to go back to fight. And I loved it for it! Replace the aliens with Nazis/Insurgents/CareBears and it could have been any other war movie; a major plus for me who's not too big on sci-fi. Macho adrenaline stuff. Good times!

 Re: BATTLE LOS ANGELES
This looked okay. Any other forumites like it? I figured Ebert was using 2006/07-era hyperbole when he gave it 1/2* out of four. "johnny larue" liked it, ILOVEBUSH liked it... how bad could it be? The special effects (those featured in the preview) looked great.

 Re: BATTLE LOS ANGELES
The Brian Tyler score was pretty rousing to me. I'm not demanding in my FX but I had no problems with it. It probably helps that we're never really up close and personal with them except that vivisection scene, which was pretty cool, but the shot was so tight that it was hard to do wrong. I'll reiterate my Black Hawk Down comparison. Like, a lot.

 Re: BATTLE LOS ANGELES
I saw this last night and I thought it was pretty impressive, I actually liked the handheld-camera directing technique used in this film as it was really immersive and made me feel like I was right in the middle of a warzone, ( and it didn't irritate me like it did in Blair Witch and Cloverfield) sure the characters could've been developed more, but that didn't really bother me as I was having too much fun to care.

 Re: BATTLE LOS ANGELES
Just caught this on BluRay. 5/10 I think!
This is a movie I wish I'd caught on the big screen. The general atmosphere demanded a large screen and quality surround sound.
Good points: Rather exciting most of the time; short, lean and to the point; just managed to miss an alegorical speech about interdependence; urban combat against a tough as nails enemy; Michelle Rodriguez looking good as always in a uniform!
Bad Points: Marines being portrayed as absolute wimps in the face of death reflects badly on the real life organisation; military tactics questionable; various scientific statements verging on laughably inaccurate; small and trivial issues with the alien tactics and motivations; Aaron Eckhart having to carry the whole movie on his talented shoulders.
Was an enjoyable movie to watch with a group of friends, containing just enough questionable moments to stimulate discussion but not enough to make us start playing Uno instead.

 Re: BATTLE LOS ANGELES
I just watched this after recording it my dvr on a whim.
AWESOME! Kick ass! The whole time I am watching this I was thinking how i wished I had caught it in a theater. I don't recall this movie getting a lot of buzz, but it should have. I agree with 2 1/2 stars, but there are enjoyable 2 1/2 star movies and there are letdown 2 1/2 star movies. This was totally enjoyable. Black hawk Down with aliens, baby! They didn't mess it up, which is all I ask for a movie like this.
