Quentin Tarantino has completed a script (?) for a Western
According to Deadline: http://www.deadline.com/2011/02/oscar-party-roundup-after-kings-speech-weinstein-could-have-good-news-soon-on-quentin-tarantino-tom-hooper-projects/Now, Quentin Tarantino is notorious for talking about "projects" he's developing that never actually see the light of day. However, Deadline seems to be a reasonable source and it claims that QT said the script was "completed". If true, this is big news. Sounds like there may be a new Tarantino movie sometime next year. Yay!

Re: Quentin Tarantino has completed a script (?) for a Western
Whatever he makes on the heels of IB has to be at the top (or very near to it) of any film enthusiasts "To See" list. We'll get to see if IB was just another high mark in a somewhat uneven career, or if the man has reached some kind of creative peak. I have no idea what the answer is, but I can't wait to find out.
That said, I'm curious to see what he brings to the Western. I have a hard time believing a guy with his film knowledge wouldn't be able to bring an interesting take on the genre. Revisionist westerns seem to be all filmmakers are interested in these days, so I'm not expecting that from him. He's anything but typical. I also don't know that he's interested in making anything resembling a straightforward genre film.
Basically, I have no idea what to expect, but anything less than greatness will be a disappointment. The words "Quentin Tarantino" and "Western" are bound to get me all kinds of excited. I'll personally view it as a bigger event film than any summer blockbuster ever could be.
Here's to hoping this isn't QT being his typical blowhard self. The idea of him making a Western is too terrific to be nonsense.

Re: Quentin Tarantino has completed a script (?) for a Western
I'm really looking forward to this (or any Tarantino movie) if it proves to be true. I only hope that I don't end up being disappointed because my expectations are sky-high. Contrast that with the pre-release buzz of IB. At that point my Tarantino-love was at its lowest point and I was seriously considering skipping the theatrical release of the film. Then the reviews started pouring in. IB was so good that I paid to see it twice. That's something I rarely do.

Tarantino directing a Western...
Well, hasn't he already? I mean, Inglorious Basterds was basically a western, just not set in the American West? The tone and style were all there. Similarly, Kill Bill had a western vibe to it.
Tarantino directing a western like a western... Not sure how I feel about that...

The second half of Kill Bill was certainly an homage to the Western. I'm not so sure about IB, though. I thought that was more his take on adventure war films like The Dirty Dozen and The Great Escape, amongst others.

Hi there, SoundSanity, and welcome to the forum. "SoundSanity" is kind of long to type. I hope you don't mind if I just abbreviate it into SS. Err...on second thought that might not be a good idea. I'd say Kill Bill volume 2 was more of a Western, but several critics called IB a spaghetti-western/war film (I think that's a bit of a stretch. The spaghetti western score is the closest it comes) so you're not off-base there. In any case, a Tarantino movie is rarely a straightforward thing. Sure, we can fit his movies into genres, but they're never "genre films". I'm excited over any thing he does, even if he ends up doing a musical. Ok, I lied. I hope he never makes a musical.

Re: Quentin Tarantino has completed a script (?) for a Western
I'm not sure the score is the only thing that brings IB into 'western' territory. The technique of the film--suspenseful stretches punctuated by fits of violence--reminded me a bit of Peckinpah. I just think Tarantino transplants the western aesthetic to another location/genre.
Come on. A musical by Tarantino? That would be just awesome beyond words. Please let it be West Side Story.

Re: Quentin Tarantino has completed a script (?) for a Western
I could see Tarantino doing a spaghetti-western style film. After all, he's said that The Good, The Bad And The Ugly is one of his all-time favorite films. If he makes a Western, I'll see it.

Re: Quentin Tarantino has completed a script (?) for a Western
Breaking news: If Tarantino's western ends up sucking we can all blame Alan Ball (writer of American Beauty, Six Feet Under and True Blood fame). Apparently, they're neighbours. It also appears that Alan Ball's birds are distracting QT. A lot. He's filed suit over their “pteradactyl-like”, “blood-curdling” and “pre-historic sounding” screams which are hampering his writing. I couldn't make this up if I tried: http://www.slashfilm.com/lol-quentin-tarantino-sues-alan-ball-exotic-birds-bloodcurdling-prehistoric-sounding-screams/

I just wet myself. Like others have stated, I just hope I'm not disappointed. That being said, however, I have to say that he's going to be hard pressed to match/surpass Inglorious Basterds

Fascinating.
One of the qualities that sets Tarantino apart from the pack is that you always get the sense that he's having the time of his life making the movie. That energy seeps into the film. As long as it has that, it'll be worthy.

That's fairly shocking. Will Smith strikes me as someone who micromanages his clean cut image and I would never have associated him with a QT movie. Either way, he doesn't strike me as the right choice. At all. In the meantime I'll be repeating Josh's mantra. Often.

Re: Quentin Tarantino has completed a script (?) for a Western
Somehow I don't think Smith will end up playing that role, he's already attached to nearly a dozen films right now, including Men In Black 3 and Bad Boys 3, so i doubt he has time to do a QT film(which i'm pretty sure isn't high on his priority list anyways)

Re: Quentin Tarantino has completed a script (?) for a Western
Hmmm....working with a well-respected director, get respect from new fans like Brad Pitt did and be in a movie that'll probably more liked than MiB III and Bad Boys III. Yeah, low-priority. Will Smith may be in stupid movies but he's not stupid enough to say no to Tarantino....unless he doesn't understand the plot like what happened with The Matrix.

Re: Quentin Tarantino has completed a script (?) for a Western
Well don't forget, Smith is currently one of if not THE most expensive actors to hire for a film, not so sure Taratino will be able to afford hiring him.

If Big Willie Style really wants to work for QT, he'll lower his price.
