Faith No More's Angel Dust.
It took me to long to not dismiss as some sort of novelty act for Epic

Yes, since making one of the best songs (and albums) of the 80's makes you a novelty act

I think what Patrick is saying is that for a lot of people, Epic will be the first song that they heard by Faith No More. Let's face it; it's utterly terrible and I'm sure it put a lot of people off listening to them.

Kind of but I wouldn't call Epic terrible. It's a fine song, but it's so over-played, it's so identified with Faith No More that if I never hear it again, I would die a happy man. PS: Angel Dust is a really good album

It is absolutely terrific. It might be overplayed, but the song works just as well now as it would in 89'. Many other artists of the 80's have much, much more to be embarrassed about than a memorable song with a perfect ending. In my opinion, 'Falling To Pieces' is nearly as good.

The Real Thing, as a whole, is a fine album.
Angel Dust is good, too, but it's the beginning of FNM becoming the Mike Patton Show.

"if I could fly" by Joe Satriani.
Prolly the best proof that guitar virtuosos can produce very entertaining music for non musicians

Frank Zappa - Guitar
Of his guitar-exclusive sets (the Shut Up 'N Play Yer Guitar series, this, and Trance-Fusion), this one is probably my least favorite. It doesn't quite have the band chemistry of the former series, nor the unhinged mania for inventiveness of the latter disc. That said, it is still a compilation of strong solos over Zappa's signature vamps, and if some is good, then more is surely better.

With all this snow I decided it'd be a good idea to reexamine Agalloch's latest album, the marrow of spirit.

I'm guessing from the name that these are some filthy black metal? I could be entirely wrong here. I'm just imagining Immortal-esque poses in a Scandinavian forrest. Recently, all I've been listening to are Dave Gorman podcasts. Dave Gorman is brilliant.

No, not at all. Or: yes, you're wrong. They're not in the same mode (costumes, weapons, amelodicism, hilarious lyrics and photos) as those other bands.

Don't forget the witches hat and dancing. No, Agalloch are kinda like if Immortal was serious, talented, and imageless.

^ one of the funniest trilogy of posts I've come across. With all due respect to the other two gentlemen, I'd have to say that the Postman's post was my favourite. These gents are right Arron. Agalloch may be Black Metal but it isn't at all what you're thinking. Really good stuff and I can't wait to finally listen to Marrow of Spirit. Here's some stuff to sample: Not Unlike the Waves: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuPz7cMD3qsShe Painted Fire Across the Skyline Pt. 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuPz7cMD3qs

Re: The Official 'What Are You Listening To Now?' Thread
I'll certainly give those a go when I get the chance. I'm at work at the moment.
We once played with 1349 (I think you'd class them as black metal) and they had some sort of fire breathing/pyrotechnics going on. It's was a venue with quite a low roof, so instantly a bad idea. Some guy ended up with a slightly burnt face and a lot of singed hair.
I can't say that I saw this occur, but the news spread around pretty quickly. I'm sure it will have been embelished at some point, but someone certainly went on a trip to A&E.
