Re: AN AMERICAN IN PARIS (1951)
No comments on this yet? Kelly'd really gotten attention in his 1940s pix, including Anchors Aweigh (which includes his famous dance with Jerry the Mouse) and On the Town. He pretty much had a free hand in those movies. He actually got an acting Oscar nomination for Anchors Aweigh. I like those two and Singin' in the Rain better than An American in Paris.

I also prefer On the Town to this.

The Oscar retrospective seems to have died with the new baby. I'd like to see it resumed. I don't think James did All About Eve, which is my favorite Best Picture winner.

It was partly because of the baby and partly because I ran up against THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH. Maybe I should just skip that and keep going. I did review ALL ABOUT EVE.

Memory lapse on my part. I haven't seen The Greatest Show on Earth but I know a lot of critics scratch their heads over that victory.

[/quote] James, if you skip it I'm going to actually try to win the competition and make you review it out of general principle. I mean it wasn't that bad when I saw it a few years ago. It was just harmless.

^while not best picture worthy, it was definitely not that bad or hard to sit through despite its length. wouldn't be surprised if james gave it 2.5 stars, hope he doesn't skip it.
