Post Re: The Official NFL Thread
The Seahawks just reminded everyone that they were indeed a 7-9 suckfest team that had no business being in the playoffs and happened to get extremely lucky last week.

YEAAAAHHHHHHHH BABYYYYY JETS WIN IT! THE JETS WIN IT! J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!!!!

No words can describe my elation right now...

There was only one prediction I wanted to get right, and boy was I right! Ahahahahahaha! I can't even believe this, it's surreal....don't pinch me, I don't want to wake up from this dream....

Now it's time for the Steelers...

Props to the Jets, but I'd bet everything I own on Pittsburgh (who I also hate) next week. Considering how long it took the Jets to play hard and well at the same time, and considering how much they considered this game their Super Bowl...I don't have much faith in them at all. Not to mention that they didn't exactly beat up two horrid defenses the past two weeks.

The Jets didn't consider this game their Super Bowl; everyone else did. Nobody was giving them a rats ass of a chance, and they got it done. Moreover, there isn't much validity in the point that they "didn't exactly beat up two horrid defenses the past two weeks." Need I remind you that their DEFENSE (the teams strongest attribute) came up big against PEYTON MANNING and TOM BRADY in these last two weeks?

Not to mention the last time the Jets faced the Steelers at their home they won, but as we all learned tonight the regular season wins don't count anymore.

So based on this one game, regular season doesn't count??? Regular season counts more in the NFL than in any other major sport, certainly. They've been talking since the offseason about the Pats and the Colts, and as much as I love trash talk, they seem to be able to dish it a lot more than they can take it.

I have no problem with the team using the "No one believed in Us!" idea as motivation, but that simply isn't at all true. At the beginning of the year, they were being picked by a LOT of people to really compete, and this week I read dozens of sportswriters who predicted them to win and not very many who thought the Pats were going to destroy them by any means. Again, almost every NFL team tells themselves that and that's fine, but unless you're the Seahawks this year its bullshit, and as a fan I think you know that.

The reason they DID and still do have doubters all season is because they were incredibly inconsistent and didn't have any excuse for being that way.

And the point about the defense is absolutely relevant...yes, they did well on D as they were supposed to (Bart Scott's idea that everyone was ripping their defense is ludicrous) and yes their defense has been their strong suit all year, but the point is that their offense didn't exactly light it up against two of the worst defenses in the league. My point is that play a much better defense next week will make it a much different game because the offense won't be able to ride the D all day. They absolutely CAN win, but it'll take either a bunch of turnovers by Pittsburgh or Sanchez playing a mistake-free, moderately aggressive game. Maybe we're entering the era where he becomes a franchise QB, but the fact that he hasn't shown us that yet does give reason to doubt him still.

I'm going to go with all of the home teams this weekend. Sure...that's playing it safe...but we can't have a boatload of upsets 2 weeks in a row...can we?

Steelers over Ravens
Patriots over Jets
Falcons over Packers (boo Falcons!)
Bears over the Seahawks (the dream ends)

Well...this week I went 2-2...better than the 1-3 I went with Wildcard weekend.

This weekend, I go back to favoring the underdogs (well...the visiting teams, anyway).
Jets over the Steelers
Packers over da Bears (this game will probably have more energy than the eventual Super Bowl)

I will admit to being a fair weather fan of the home team (Packers) so I'm hoping they beat the Bears and face the Jets in the Bowl. There's a small (not that small) part of me that would enjoy thoughts of Favre watching his two former teams play.

Although there is a local business that employs persons with disabilites and they produce "The Terrible Towel", and it's always nice for them to be busy.

Well, once again, both my teams are out of it. That's what I get for loving the Seahawks and the Saints (that wild-card was both awesome and tragic at the same time). As a Seahawks fan, I hate the Steelers. I also hate the arrogance of the Jets, so I really don't care about the AFC Championship game. The only team left that I like is the Packers, so of course I want them to win it all.

Here are my picks for tomorrow's games:
Jets over Steelers
Packers over Bears

Have there ever been two six-seeds in the Super Bowl? To the internets!

EDIT: No, there hasn't. And Pittsburgh in 2005 is the only six seed to ever win the big game.

We have a weird system in our house

My eldest son has rightly declared that I'm clueless so he picked the Steelers and gave me the Jets and he picked the Bears and gave me the Packers

We shall see

Beautiful if I may say so myself. For the first time in more than a decade, I have an actual interest in football. Makes me wanna be back in Wisconsin even more!

I felt torn.

I am closer to Wisconsin than to Chicago, yet everyone was rooting for the Bears.
So I guess I'm indifferent?

But anyway, I came here to say...

Fuck the Steelers.

That is all.

...and nothing says romance like the Pack..? Have you been to Green Bay, Rob?

I'm glad it will be a Packers/Steelers Super Bowl. Production of the "Terrible Towel" goes into overdrive this morning at CRI
http://www.crind.org/about-us
in Chippewa Falls, WI. I couldn't be more pleased. Thumbing Favre's nose with a Jets/Pack Bowl would've been a great vengeance victory, but supporting the home team AND our local economy... that's just a boatload of gravy right there.

Hopefully, in the end, the Packers of Green Bay will triumph by kicking the oblong ball made of pigskin through a big "H". THAT would be a most ripping victory.

Yay Steelers :D

In unrelated news, I'd bet on the Bengals trading Palmer to the Cardinals. It'd be a perfect fit--the Cards want a veteran QB to start for a year or two while they'd see if either Hall or Skelton develop into a starting caliber player. And the Bengals would put him far away from Cincannati, probably getting a mid-round pick in return. The Bengals don't have much leverage, since Palmer has given them the ultimatum.

So, predicting offseason QB moves:
Chicago: Cutler stays, Hannie becomes the #2 and as soon as Cutler struggles, every fan in Chicago calls for Hannie to become the starter.
Washington: Draft a QB. Grossman stays on as their AJ Feely. McNabb moves to Minnesota.
Minnesota: Favre stays retired. McNabb starts and struggles.
Philly: Vick stays on as the starter. Kevin Kolb goes elsewhere.
Seattle: Drafts a QB in round 1 (Jake Locker), but Hasselback stays on for another year as the starting QB.
San Francisco: Makes a move for Kevin Kolb or Vince Young.
Oakland: Keeps Jason Cambell and Bruce Gradkowski.
Arizona: Nabs Palmer, keeps the two rookies.
Denver: Starts Tebow, keeps Orton as the backup
Miami: Strongly considers drafting a QB in the first round (Newton). Possibly targets Vince Young.
Carolina: Doesn't draft a QB. Maybe targets Vince Young.

More years of misery for San Fran if this happens. They need stable quality. Best that can be said here is Kolb is stable.
