Post For 2011 I resolve to:
How many of you have made a resolution to change anything for 2011??

At five days into the New Year, how are they going??

I'll chime in with mine later, as one of my resolutions was to screw around on the 'net less...

Post Re: For 2011 I resolve to:
So, for 2011 I have a goal. To reach it I need to lose weight, and hopefully raise good cholesterol and lower bad cholesterol. The wife and I (as of New Year's Eve) have changed our diets completely. Every meal will now contain a full serving of vegetables and be prepped in such a way as to reduce bad fats. Our "snacks" have been leaving the house as fast as the common-surface table at my office can take them. Chips have given way to crisps (or baked chips), and dips are now only salsa or hummus. In short, it's been a full dietary transformation that we are both policing. Exercise is now a daily activity, and our Wii is seeing heavy use of EA Sports "Active". The wife and I are both training for a 5k run in April and neither of us have run any more than the few steps it takes to catch the kids in a store. -Changing of diet and training for this run are sub-goals that I've viewed as crucial to my main goal which is unmentioned above.

My goal deadline is June 17th -subject to change to June 24th dependant on weather or scheduling conflicts- as those are the nearest Fridays to the Summer Solstice and will provide the longest daylight hours of the year.

My goal is to ride a one day double-century on bicycle.

Last summer I (somewhat unintentionally) rode a 100+ mile day while on a fully-loaded tour. If I could do that on a 85lb (bike and gear) beast, I should be able to do double that on the 22lb sport-racer I just bought with my Christmas money.

That's my series of resolutions and anticipated payoff.

My goal this year is to get a real job. Which isn't setting the bar too high. I hope.

Good luck with all that, Awf! You guys sound determined. I daresay your story is even a touch inspiring. :)

I don't really have any resolutions this year, other than to bring my grades up a little bit. They're fine, but I really want a 4.0 for some reason. I just want to prove I can do it. >/ I'm taking mostly cinema and writing classes, it shouldn't be TOO hard.

Go to at least 2 new states, and 2 new countries. The latter will be harder. I'm heading to the UK/Ireland but I've been to London a bunch before so that won't count. Maybe take a daytrip to Oslo, Brussels, or Copenhagen instead, as long as they're so close (relatively speaking) if the wife agrees. If not maybe we'll cash in some American miles and go to Ecuador. That'd be pretty sweet. But either way, 2 countries.

State-wise, I don't know what I'll do. Look for cheap airfares I guess, or take a long road trip at some point. But I love travelling and notching new places, so it's worth doing.

Not suck a guitar so much.
Write something memorable.
Declare my major
Get a job.

I should make more videos, and actual ones instead of me just talking about it.
I should probably move but I'm definitely vacationing in Austin soon enough.

That's about it.

I'm surprised Awfy. You've posted a few times about your biking trips so you struck me as a really fit guy already. But yeah, good for you and good luck.

I've never been one for resolutions and can't come up with anything too inspiring to share here so I'll just repeat my movie hopes: to see more good movies. Boring, I know. I'll try to think up some goal and share it later :)

Much like Awf, my plan involves weight loss. I lost 40 lbs this year but slacked off the last few months and gained 10 back. I'm looking to lose those ten along with an additional 25 this year, hopefully by summer. We'll see.

I'm with you Bob. I lost 30 lbs. last year and intend to lose an additional 25 - 30 by May. Good luck and good strength.

Come to Munich! It's a great city and you can do some great day trips (or longer) from here. In addition to all the wonderful things Bavaria has to offer, Salzburg is only an hour away. Expand your circle a bit and you could be in Prague, Venice, Berlin, Vienna, Strasbourg... all within a 5-hour drive from here. Paris or Rome are overnight trains away, and a flight to London is only 2 hours.

You're welcome to crash at our place (as long as we're home, that is). :)

Anyway, I've resolved to give up buying cigarettes. Not to stop smoking, just stop buying them. Much cheaper that way.

Oh thanks for your kind welcome and enthusiastic endorsement of your home city, but it won't be Munich. I've already been to Germany as it so happens (Berlin and Frankfurt) and while I would love to go back now that I'm at an age to appreciate things more, countries I haven't yet been to take precedence.

That's cool James, but one could argue that you haven't really been to Germany unless you've been to Munich.

Anyway, the offer is still good. Like I said, Prague (one of my favorite cities) is just a hop away.... :)

In my opinion, you haven't been to Germany unless you've driven the Nordschliefe. ;)

Ed,
I'm finding that bike fitness and running fitness are two very different things. I'm 5'7" (170cm) and about 190 lbs (86.2 Kg). My Wii Fit classes my BMI as overweight to borderline obese. While I think that is a load of $#!+ ('cause my quads are disproportionate from 25 years of biking, skiing, snowboarding and hiking survey gear) I do have flab that I'm tired of looking at. I'll never hit my Wii 'ideal' weight of 144 lbs until I'm decomposing, however. I haven't weighed that since Jr. high -before I started training hard for slalom. "Skinny jeans" would fit me like sausage casings, if at all.

For anyone with goals, plan the route, plan how you can travel the route, and have a destination and deadline in mind. I need to follow my own advice on my cinematic journey and lay out a better plan than I was following.

Find a steady girlfriend. My best friend is engaged and his fiance is now expecting. I need to catch up--as a Mormon, I should already be married with a kid. I'm middle aged for being single and LDS :(

Eat healthier, exercise more. Cut cigarette intake down a bit. As for the forum: more classics, more discussion. You know, all that jazz.
