 New Regime Poll #8: Tarantino's 2nd-best film
So I want to talk Tarantino (we are kinda all fanboys here on the forums in some fashion or another, especially since those few girls who joined promptly left) and I don't think there's a man among us who doesn't get excited for his films. I left off Pulp Fiction because I think it would win handily. If you don't think that's actually his magnum opus, feel free to comment about it.
So, long story short: what's the second-best movie Tarantino has made?

Re: New Regime Poll #8: Tarantino's 2nd-best film
I've actually always preferred Reservoir Dogs to Pulp Fiction. It's leaner and more controlled, and at only 100 minutes it doesn't suffer from some of the excess bloat that has plagued all of his other movies. To me, it's still the best film Tarantino has directed, so that's where my vote went.
Although truthfully, I'm not the biggest Tarantino fan. Inglourious Basterds was a return to form after the unspeakable godawfulness of the Kill Bill films and Death Proof, but in my opinion he still hasn't lived up to the potential that excited so many people with his first two films. With Jackie Brown, there was a glimpse at what a mature Quentin Tarantino film would look like, but he hasn't really returned to that in his subsequent work.

You did specify 2nd-best. The answers would have been more interesting if you'd left Pulp Fiction in, I think.

I don't think so: I think 9/10 people find that to be his best film

James
This is an odd one as RD is my fave film from QT with PF second. So I voted for Reservoir Dogs

So, per the rules of the thread, 9/10 people would pick something other than Pulp Fiction, and the 1/10 people who pick Pulp Fiction would have something interesting to say about their 1st-best pick.

Poll re-edited so people who think RD is better than PF can say so. They are misguided creatures to be sure, but never mind

Re: New Regime Poll #8: Tarantino's 2nd-best film
Reservoir Dogs easily comes a close second, not only in my favorites from Tarantino, but my favorites period! I must say though that Basterds could possibly tie with that; at least it's a close third. The number one spot is occupied by, guess what, Pulp Fiction, but I feel that in some ways, it's tough to single out one over the other as all three films showcase what Tarantino is capable of achieving when he's fully in command of his craft.

eeeek as someone into statistics, this is going to make my brain explode
I think the real questions is this:
If we take out PF from the equation, what is your favorite QT movie
Rob
PS - Reservoir Dogs

Pulp is his best, of course.
Reservoir Dogs is his second best.
Kill Bill Vol. 1 would be his third best.
The rest of his movies are solid except for Death Proof which I didn't like.

Re: New Regime Poll #8: Tarantino's 2nd-best film
I lost the small bet I had with myself. I was waiting for someone to say that Kill Bill 1 and 2 were meant to be one movie, therefore it is the shit, or something like that. I don't believe that but thought someone would.
Now since I lost, I have to put up those shelves she wants up. Thanks dicks.

Don't feel bad, if there was no Inglorious basterds I would have voted for one of them...probably 2.

Re: New Regime Poll #8: Tarantino's 2nd-best film
Inglourious Basterds is my pick for Tarantino's "2nd-best," though the distinction is kind of blurry. It's so different from Pulp Fiction that I have difficulty ordering them.
While I wouldn't go so far as to say it was accidental, I think Pulp Fiction was the masterpiece that nobody expected. With Basterds, it's almost as though Tarantino wanted so badly to bring it up to Pulp Fiction's high watermark that he did it by force of will. It was a conscious effort to make a movie for the ages.

Res Dogs was always my 2nd fav, until IB. I've seen it about 5 times since its release (twice in theatres) and it's slipped into the deuce.
Pulp Fiction Inglourious Basterds Reservoir Dogs Jackie Brown Kill Bill Vol II Kill Bill Vol I Death Proof

Reservoir Dogs, of course. When it came time to vote I chose Inglourious Basterds. So I guess it's either one of those with a slight preference for the latter.

Re: New Regime Poll #8: Tarantino's 2nd-best film
I said Inglorious but I think it's actually his best film. I'd rate Jackie Brown as his second best. Then Reservoir Dogs. Then Pulp Fiction.

Inglorious is his second best film. I haven't seen RD in a long time and haven't seen DP.
