Where did the Academy get it right? Let's hear your votes. After this maybe I'll do a "worst" companion poll

You probably should've done the worst first since I know which one's the worst.

As for the best, the highest I gave some movies was an 8/10...even though it seemed I gave Chicago a 9/10 which I probably shouldn't have. I'll get back to you.

I voted Slumdog Millionaire as it posted in my top 5 of 2008. No Country came in second although it took 2 viewings for me to separate it from the underwhelming novel on which it was based.

I was so tempted to vote Chicago :-)

Nice poll

Just goes to prove what a complete waste of time the Academy is terms of great movies

I just did not realize how bad the best choices really were.

But it's always been the same.

Return of the King, baby. I'll take front before front takes me and say that the end is not at all overlong and is instead quite fitting. I've spent ten wonderful hours with these characters, so why would I want to say goodbye in 5 minutes? Also, the end is far shorter than the one in the novel. I'm just glad the Hobbits didn't have to go back and battle Sharkey at the Shire.

Fwiw, No Country for Old Men is a close second.

James, both Crash and The Hurt Locker have an asterisks after their release years. Does that signify something?

What were the chances that No Country wouldn't pull the lead?

Oh thanks Ed I forgot to mention about the asterisks. If any of you are as nerdy about film years as I am, you'll know that technically The Hurt Locker was released initially in 2008 and Crash in 2004 before getting their mainstream release in 2009 and 2005, respectively. Hence the asterisks.

No Country. A legitimately excellent film surrounded by a pack of (relatively) weak titles.

I'm going with No Country, it reminds me so much of Sergio Leone's movies where everything always lead up to the rituals of violence instead of the violence itself....if that makes any sense.

The Hurt Locker for me. Easy to shallow but always formally inventive with some great performances and a killer ending. Not necessarily a great work of art but a great experience, if that makes sense.

I'm gonna choose The Departed for this one although I feel that Return of the King and No Country for Old Men were equally deserving of the award in their respective years as well.

I chose No Country but that may be because I just saw it. Undisputably great.

While ROTK is spellbinding, I said Slumdog Millionaire, which is an absolute tour de force from beginning to end.
