Hemina's "As We Know It" EP. Not bad Dream Theater influenced prog. That's a change.

"Testament" by Flying Lotus.
Anybody heard of this guy? I'm a fan of this recent strain of psychedelic instrumental hip-hop (or however the hell you'd like to categorize it) that's been on the rise lately, and Lotus is at the forefront of that. So I've finally listened to his album "Los Angeles" and Testament is the 16th track on that. Good to great stuff, though like most of the genre I have the feeling it'll be a serious grower. Testament is one of the better stand along tracks though, based on the two minutes I've listened to it.

For the past few weeks, I’ve been constantly rotating between three albums: Sleigh Bells' Treats, The Roots' Rising Down and Big Boi's Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, with a bit of Mark Ronson's Record Collection and Tegan and Sarah's Sainthood thrown in for good measure.

Almost but not really. I guess you could say it's a variation on Trip Hop but there's a significant more amount of hip hop than alternative atmosphere-making in it. Lotus could be placed there with a little stretching but someone like The Gaslamp Killer (another guy from that scene) really couldn't.

I'm about to listen to Steven Seagal's debut album. If my neck gets broken I want my body to cremated and put in shotgun shells, then someone shoot and kill Steven Seagal. Now many of you will have your necks broken but with you guys, at least one of you should fire a shot in his general direction.

This is somehow more poetic than ""I shall not be here/I shall rise and pass/Bury my heart at Wounded Knee," and for that I really, honestly thank you.

I survived, my review of Seagal's debut will be up Sunday...here's a review for one song to whet your appetite.
Dance(*/****) -This isn't a song! It's a graveyard of broken necks for everything! First off, Seagal breaks Suspension of Disbelief's neck with the fact that's he wants us to believe he can seduce a woman...sexually. He breaks the melody's neck with some perversion of Arabian-Nights-esque sounds where it literally sounds broken and tortured. He breaks his own tongue's neck since his vocals are so low in the mix that he's barely audible. He breaks the ability to speak french's neck since his french is horrible. It's like Seagal went neck-break crazy and took it out on this song. Also, he's trying to seduce a woman SEXUALLY! Nothing about this song is good in any way.

I never saw a full episode of Hannah Montana so I can't really comment on that, though i'd still gladly watch it over The Office.

Another band that's been getting alot of play time lately is Nickelback, and i'm well aware of how much most of you guys hate them, hell I used to hate them myself, but they really grew on me after awhile. If nothing else you guys should listen to Nickelback's earlier material from they're debut album Curb, they sound like a completely different band, nothing like the Nickelback of today, see this song for an example. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAN67rks2ns

Re: The Official 'What Are You Listening To Now?' Thread
Right now? Exactly right now?
Shakira. Her newest album is called Sale El Sol..."The Sun Comes Out." Specifically, the song is called Lo Que Mas. Absolutely beautiful piece that reminds me of her earliest work...the somber, pining, painful, love song that usually was, then, accompanied with guitar, now, replaced with piano (another of one of my favorite "painful" instruments...if you know what I mean), along with her voice and original delivery...just about brings tears man.
I know what you guys think. Shakira? That mainstream crossover chick whose English lyrics I can't comprehend?
No man...that's not her. You listen to her early work, albums like Pies Delcalzos or Donde Estan Los Ladrones, and you see where she is coming from. Solid music, that girl. And with a few of the songs on this newest album...I can see that she still has it in her.
Maybe I'm just biased though.

I used to love to ogle Shakira so I was understandably "excited" when I heard she had a new video ("Loca" I think). But...what the hell happened to her? She's suddenly incredibly skinny. Why would she do that? Her size was perfect before.

Re: The Official 'What Are You Listening To Now?' Thread
The only song I like by Nickelback is "How You Remind Me". I actually think Kroeger has talent, which he has shown with Santana before ("Into the Night" - gorgeous song), as well as the song "Hero" he did on the "Spiderman" soundtrack. I can't stand the band overall though, I'll just leave it at that. As far as me? Been listening to old Eminem lately. You know, when he was really, really good. Stuff like "Till' I Collapse" (his best song, IMO), "Stan", "Lose Yourself", all that jazz.
