What was your mental image of JB before you saw his picture?

Post What was your mental image of JB before you saw his picture?
Weird question I know but I am curious to see what everyone thought JB looked like before we all saw his picture and, I'm sure, shocked at how much of a nerd he was. Back in the time when all we had was a name, stars and words to make our mental image of him.

For me: much more Italian looking, not quite a mobster but almost there. I imagined him with a beard and I was thinking he was 10 years older then he actually was. But I was right about the glasses

Anton Ego. I bet the first draft is always on the typewriter, right James? That clack from every letter can be very theraputic for the odd half star review.

The voice of God. But then it was like finding out that God needed a starship.

Just kidding! *hides*

well, i got to reading his reviews through rotten tomatoes. and they already have a small picture next to each review. but i dont know why, i always thought that was a drawing.
to answer your question - something like this, only more tan, thinner, and a stubble instead of the french beard.

its amazing that that guy is also called James Berardinelli.

also, even though ive seen pictures load of times, i can never think of ebert as a fat dude.

For some reason, it was Oliver Platt(who had roles in Executive Decision, A Time to Kill, and Flatliners). I don't know why, but I WILL say that JB was probably the most nicest, respectful, and courteously guys I've met online. No matter how much I may have bugged him with emails, he responded with just that.

I thought of a shorter skinnier ebert. :D

This is strange and kinda funny for me. I've seen all the versions of pictures of him that the site has gone through, as well as a few others that have popped up here and there. So clearly, I know what he looks like.

For some reason, though, for all of my Berardinelli-reading-life, I pictured him as John Carpenter, not the film director but the first US winner of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Seriously. This is moderately embarrasing, but true. I absolutely cannot get the image out of my head whenever I'm reading anything of James'. Sorry James, I know it's not you!

That's a truly devastating portrait of James.

He doesn't even get an Angelfire property :(

Same as Patrick, minus the beard.

I was sure he would look like this

You know, he ended up being pretty close to what I imagined.

The sad thing is, the guy on the right is pretty much JB without the calculator...I hope.

For some reason, he looked almost exactly as I pictured him....an uber-skinny version of me sans goatee. I have better hair, though... ;)
