the man just works too much. why does he feel obliged to write five or six projects a year? I'm sure most of us would prefer if he wrote one or two quality films a year instead of five or six mediocre ones.

I watched this tonight.
It was good for what it was. Which wasn't much.
But it was kind of fun to see a good actor kicking some ass for once. This movie would not have been as interesting if it was Jason Statham doing the ass-kicking.

I don't know if it was just me, but when I first saw the trailer for Taken [which I will have to wait for DVD to see] it somewhat reminded me of Frantic. I guess from the idea of a kidnapping/disappearance and one man running about piecing it all together. Seems enjoyable but I think Besson needs to calm down a bit!

I think Besson needs a break. I see his name attached to films so often these days that I'm surprised he hasn't been labeled as the French version of Harvey Weinstein.

Ouch! I sincerely hope that doesn't happen! Some of the attachments have been good though, like District B13 and the upcoming B14. For some reason those come to mind immediately.

They're sequelizing B13? How the hell can B14 be even more awesomely over-the-top than B13?

Not really. i've seen both and while they are thematically similar this is much more hardcore.
I have no idea how the version I saw got a PG-13 certificate
Rob

Finally saw this movie last night... pretty enjoyable stuff. It did seem slightly edited. Here's to hoping an international version is released when it comes out later. Overall I thought it was a fun way to spend 90 minutes. Liam Neeson is a superhero!

I enjoyed this one ... if you go into it expecting some ridiculously unrealistic Jack Bauer revenge coupled with kung-fu, electrocutions, etc., you're at least going to be in for a crazy ride ... though the plot itself remains irrelevant.

The opening half hour was pretty painful, but once it got got to the violence, it was moderately entertaining.

I was pretty amused by the portrayal of the french though. If it wasn't written and directed by frenchmen, it'd be pretty easy to accuse it of outright racism. As it is it seems to go some lengths to pander to American xenophobia.

Definitely. I was surprised about that myself. I keep telling my wife if she really wants to see a great French action film she needs to see District B-13. I know James B called it essentially "action porn," but I'll be damned if that wasn't the most fun time I've had in a movie theater in the last five years ;) Anyone else seen it?

I quite liked District B-13, but once you've seen the action sequences introducing the protagonists, the movie's pretty much blown its load. It never comes close to staging anything as elaborate again.

I just want to know one thing (and this should not be a Spoiler, right?), Who oh Who was Driving the Boat?

Ahahah. Great question. It never even occurred to me, and maybe the filmmakers were counting on that.

Ahoy all, officially my first post!

In all absolute seriousness, it was amusing to see human-traffickers being punished for what they are, even if it was a fictional account of such.

My friends and I watched it right after watching Falling Down - what two movie combo is better?

Would Liam Neeson have made a good James Bond?

Would Liam Neeson have made a good Frank Castle?

From the review: "And one has to accept that, while the ending resolves the film's main storyline, there are countless dangling threads about which we are supposed to forget."

Yeah - this is one of them.

I love a good thriller and I've been looking forward to this, and will most likely see it at some point, but I'm disappointed (although not shocked) to hear that the film lacks intelligence. Not that I was expecting a mind-bender, but if I want mindless man vs world violence, I'll stick with 24 or Bourne.

Alas, Liam makes me compelled to check it out eventually.

Not sure I would call the movie a thriller, just a decent action pic. It moves from point A to point B to point C fairly quickly. I would have liked it to be 20 minutes longer just so it would have been a bit more fluid. Since I enjoyed the movie and would recommend it, I would have given it a 3.0.

I didn't really think about 24 when watching the movie, though Neeson would make a good Bauer if Sutherland quit the show.

Watched this about a week ago. Have to say it was just great fun. Like others have noted, there is nothing good plot-wise, but if you want to see an angry man go crazy, this is the movie. I had recently watched Wanted, and I want to say that both are in the same vein (revenge flicks, ridiculousness), although Taken is more "realistic"...

Would Liam Neeson have made a good James Bond?

Would Liam Neeson have made a good Frank Castle?

Well, if you go only according to this role, Neeson wouldn't be a good Bond, because Bond doesn't do enough badassery! He does do a better job at being Frank Castle than Tom Jane in the first Punisher I think.

Edit: Sry, forgot to give credit to the guy who asked the two questions? Didn't realize how to do it.

I love that James made the comparison to 24 - spot on. You have to admit it was to the point. And I'm speaking for the ladies when I say Liam Neeson was very appealing in this role.

Saw this a while ago and was entertained. It's your standard retaliation action/thriller, but with a palpable adrenaline rush which I attribute to Neeson's character not holding back and really unleashing hell on the enemies.

I absolutely loved this movie !!!

Taken is like that newest, baddest theme park ride in town... given that if you have the patience to get over that first 15 minute of queuing, you're in for a hell of a ride !

Okay we've all seen this movie done before but seriously how can anyone resist watching Liam Neeson breaking bones and kicking ass? Yes they are plot holes and inconsistencies that you could drive a Star Destroyer through but you're so caught up in it's fenetic pacing that you're completely sucked in - a credit to the movie.

This also makes great educational material for parents out there with teenage daughters, teaching them about the perils of opening up to strangers in foreign countries before big daddy from the CIA of the United States of Americal bombs in and saves the day 8-)
