Battlestar Galactica (SPOILERS WELCOME)

Post Re: Battlestar Galactica (SPOILERS WELCOME)
I have loved this show ever since I discovered it just after Season 1 finished, I got ahold of the miniseries on DVD
and I fell in love immediatly. Thankfully I got the Season 1 DVD set and watched while Season 2 was just starting.
I got caught up fast and I've been hooked ever since. I'm sad the show is ending but at least it's going out
while the quality is outstanding rather then "it's not good anymore, time to put it out of its misery."

Season 4 has just been mind blowingly good from the start, esp these last few episodes after the reveal that Earth
was a nuked wasteland. The Mutiny 2 Parter was beyond awesome, I hated Gatea and felt pitty for him at the same
time for betraying Adama and joining forces with Zarek. I'm glad Adama executed the both of them after it was over.

Last week's ep, No Exit, was another mind frack with all the big revelations about the Final 5 and the Cylons. I was
never a big fan of Ellen Tigh before but the new post-ressurection Ellen is pretty darn cool. Her scenes with Cavil
on the Basestar were outstanding. Kudos to both Kate Vernon and Dean Stockwell for bringing their A games in
the acting department, they were excellent.

As for Cavil, he is one evil mother f'n bastard. He's equal parts, Satan, Oedipus and Cain all rolled into one. Knowingly
having sex with your creator, your MOTHER....really really sick. It was great how Moore showed in this episode how
Cavil is the main villian of the show, he is repsonsible for everything since the colonies were destroyed in the mini-series
and its all because he wants to be more machine than human and utterly hates the fact he was given human form and
decided to take it out on everyone.

Yikes, I'm amazed I was able to handle everything Moore and Co threw at us in that episode.

I wonder if Starbuck has any connection to Daniel, the 7th Cylon model that Cavil destroyed because he was jealous
of him. Could she be a reincarnated Daniel, or perhaps his daughter? We'll find out soon enough I think.

Im not wrong, some people enjoy it. I dont do it for BSG but i do for Doctor who.

Saying someone is wrong about how they enjoy watching a show is like saying they are wrong for not liking Icecream.

I dont like Icecream.

I get that response to my argument a lot.
I think it is a poor analogy. I am not telling you that you are wrong for liking something. I am telling you that you are depriving yourself from liking it even more.
A better example would be if you said you always let ice cream melt before eating it, and you like it that way-so why eat it frozen?

I love Battlestar! We all love Battlestar. I am trying to argue that there is a right way to watch it and a wrong way according to the creator's wishes (and the conventions of how one watches a visual work of art in general).

Yes i understand that, but what you dont seem to get is that some people like this MORE. This isnt the first tv series i have really liked, but it is the first where i can discuss it as it happens with online friends, and im in my 30's now so i dont feel like im missing out on anything if a show is (self) spoiled or not.

As a little aside.. my wife is... i dont know how to really put this across clearly... disturbingly good at predicting twists and suprises in movies/shows. She had Tigh and the chief picked correctly before the reveal and her guess for the final cylon is Ellen based on her thory that all the cylons seem to be partnered up or connected in some way. Episode wise the last one she saw (availible on DVD here) was the mid season "earth has been nuked" cliffhanger. I dont know how i kept the shock off my face when she told me what she thought.

About to start a final season marathon to get up to date, haven't watched since episode 10 in season 4.

Is there any point in watching the web episodes?

While I wouldn't necessarily call them essential, I believe they set up a plotline at the beginning of 4.5 quite well. Plus, I think it's an interesting string of web episodes.

I heard a (rather bizarre) theory that Kara is the seventh Cylon, Daniel, and that somehow she was changed from male to female, an homage to her character sex change for this remake. This theory mostly makes me laugh.

But who knows.

Daniel... Daniel... would they introduce such an interesting/integral character so late in the show? I'd like to think things are more connected than a random Daniel existing or having existed somewhere.

On the podcast comentary he did for No Exit, Ron Moore said Daniel is important for things leading up to the finale,
but he also said Daniel is going to play an important role in the upcoming prequel series Caprica. That tibit got me
very intrigued.

I'm guessing "Daniel" will be named after Daniel Graystone who will be a prominent figure in the new Caprica series. Of course, it could be coincidence, but it is an interesting connection.

Really enjoyed "No Exit" however. Top quality writing and performances as usual, and very pivotal for the series as a whole- the end is coming!

Just watched the part where Dualla pulls the trigger. Did not see that coming! All said and done, I'm happy, she was a pretty annoying character that didn't being much to the show and better late than never.

I think the biggest let down of BSG are the characters and casting, they're mostly quite dull and uninteresting and I think it's what keeps the show from going to the next level (all-time great).

Aside from Starbuck, Adama, Tigh and Roslin none of the characters are very interesting and none of those four are particularly memorable aside from Starbuck. Also with the Cylons - there are no great villains, they're all quite boring. However the writing, plot and the action is so good that you don't notice it much - only during an episode's quieter moments.

Ooooh, really liked the mutiny episodes. Very high class action.

Blasphemy! Battlestar Galactica has some of best crafted, most consistent and intriguing, dynamic characters I've ever seen on a show not produced by HBO. Not only that, but the actors portraying them consistently give performances worthy of the recognition that many Oscar nominees receive. I mean, I could go on for days about the dynamics between Adama/Tigh, Starbuck/Lee, Roslin/Baltar... this is just the tip of the iceberg.

If anything, the plot and action are secondary elements with BSG for myself-- those too are very nice, but I've always watched this show because of the characters and the actors playing them.

Baltar's whiny thing is the most annoying aspect of the show. In theory he's a great character, but the role is miscast pretty badly. Lee is one step away from Sylvester Stallone, just an all round boring character who doesn't bring much to the show.

The latest episode was a bit too soapy for my liking, pretty much just filler. Only a handful of episodes left and still no clear indication on where the show is headed.

I was surprised to see a movie with so little plot advancement this close to the ending. Weakest episode thus far of the final batch.

As for where it's going: there are a lot of little things to be resolved, but the big issues are obviously the integration of the Cylons and humans and the final confrontation with Cavil's group.

If I were to guess, and this is without any information, Galactica will be destroyed at the end and Adama and Roslin will go down with the ship. Maybe a suicide run at the final base ship. (That - or a variation on it - is how I'd end it: heroic and tragic at the same time.)

Baltar has been my favourite character from the very beginning; I see him as the most interesting and complex of the lot. Plus, I can't get enough of James Callis-- I think he's one of the series' strongest performers.

Awesome episode tonight in my opinion--the best of the season. It was much more focused than some of the past few eps. Stuff still happened, big stuff, but the episode managed to feel like it had its own arc too, it wasn't just all part of the big march to the end of the series. Some of the eps so far have felt like filler quite honestly.

Loved the Starbuck/her father stuff. Brilliantly done.

Agreed. Still don't know where this is going though.

Totally. Don't have a problem with that though.
