 Re: Recent DVD Purchases
Two weekends back I made a rare trip to Wal-Mart and snagged The Monster Squad and Near Dark on Blu-ray for $8 each. Last weekend I went to a local used dvds, music, videogames and porn joint and grabbed Pineapple Express, Role Models and Passion of the Christ on a 3 for $10 deal.

 Re: Recent DVD Purchases
Bumping this topic because I just bought There Will Be Blood and The Thin Red Line on Blu-ray. I have a tendency to that: buy movies I'm not a huge fan of. TTRL might pull a Hunger.

 Re: Recent DVD Purchases
Looking forward to replacing my low-end VHS copy of The Magician with Criterion's new print but no other purchases look to be on the horizon.

Picked up Dario Argento's Suspiria and a half-priced used Criterion copy of David Cronenberg's Naked Lunch.

 Re: Recent DVD Purchases
Bought The Last of the Mohicans on Blu Ray. I've been waiting for it forever and as soon as it hit the market on Tuesday, I got it.
It features by far my favorite ending in a film, as well as one of the most soaring and epic soundtracks I can recall. Love that film.

 Re: Recent DVD Purchases
When will you be selling that massive television of yours? That should be good for at least +3 karma points.

 Re: Recent DVD Purchases
Long time since I heard it called a television. But no, we rather like it. Recent showing of Blu rays of 2001 and Wall-E were quite nice Rob

 Re: Recent DVD Purchases
Some of those DVD's could have been ours major. Some of them...and we could even split the cost on the TV.

 Re: Recent DVD Purchases
I just bought This is Spinal Tap the other day along with Criterion's The Hit by Stephen Frears. I've never seen the latter, but I chose it over another Criterion blind buy - The Friends of Eddie Coyle. Anyone know if I made the right choice?

 Re: Recent DVD Purchases
Kick-Ass Mr. Death (for 95 cents, nonetheless) An Education Capitalism: A Love Story The Ghost Writer
I also pre-ordered the unjustly unheralded 'Winter's Bone' from Amazon late last night. Expect an in-depth thread and review when it is delivered.
P.S. - 'Revolutionary Road' was on sale for 95 cents, but to be honest, I think that may be the worst prestige film of the last decade. It is truly of no artistic, social, or critical merit aside from being competently shot and acted (the dialogue in particular is bland).

 Re: Recent DVD Purchases
Alright Pedro. Brought it back to life...
I haven't been able to buy anything lately, but I was gifted The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Observe and Report. The former I haven't made it through yet. The latter I really like.
Last night at my softball game I was offered, "...all the new movies, man. Five dollars each, or two for eight."
I said, "Sorry man. I've got no cash." Even though I had a 20 in my pocket.

Don't you love bootleggers? Those seedy individuals that are too scared to just go ahead and sell drugs, but can't resist the criminal life. Hilarious. Nice to hear you like Observe and Report. I bought that not too long ago myself. I really like it as well.

 Re: Recent DVD Purchases
Really? Kick-Ass? But... why? James Berardinelli was clearly under the influence when he awarded that mediocre little puddle ***1/2. As for Revolutionary Road, now: it couldn't possibly have been the worst prestige film of the last decade. Not with Frost/Nixon, 21 Grams, The House of Sand and Fog and so many, many other terrible titles out there cavorting like they shouldn't be shot on the spot.

 Re: Recent DVD Purchases
Supposedly Beauty and the Beast is being "released from the vaults" the 15th this month. I'm thinking about doing a blind buy here. What do you guys say? Yeah, I know...another effing movie I haven't seen that everyone's seen. Word of mouth, and forum says it's a great movie.
And why the hell do they say "released from the vaults" for. There's no effing vaults.

 Re: Recent DVD Purchases
That's for the Blu-Ray release. It's been devaulted otherwise. That's a smart blind buy. One of Disney's greatest works.
