Cannot honestly make a list of ten so I shall post one, and that is Seinfeld of course.

(1) Frasier (2) Two And A Half Men (3) Arrested Development (4) South Park (5) Californication (is this a sitcom?) (6) Seinfeld (7) Family Guy (8) Futurama (can be absolutely brilliant, can be incredibly tepid) (9) Friends (first three seasons were cheesy, but it got a good rhythm after that) (10) Will & Grace (should've been called Jack & Karen, if you ask me)
I'm sure I'm forgetting some others, but that's how I would rank those.

Re: Your Top 10 Situation Comedies...
Cannot list 10, so here's as many I can list...
(in order)
1. Arrested Development (an epic comedy; so many themes, in-jokes, running gags, foreshadowings, all in three amazing seasons) 2. The Simpsons(earlier seasons, of course) 3. Night Court 4. Gilligan's Island (nostalgia-bias, I suppose) 5. South Park (mixed bag most of the time) 6.King of the Hill (can be a mixed bag as well, but the characters are hilarious, favorite being Dale Gribble)

I suppose that if I had put a little more thought into it, I would have picked Gilligans as well. I watched that every chance I got to when I was a kid...

On a personal note, I have to say that Seinfeld was complete and utter rubbish. Overhyped, irrelevant and devoid of any redeeming features.

My thoughts exactly! I NEVER got why people always gushed over that show or how anyone EVER found Jerry Seinfeld funny,I laughed more at Carrot Top then I did at him!

Arrested Development-The domination of AD in this thread is justified. Incredible show. I've seen all 3 seasons at least twice each and it's just as funny every time I watch it. The Office(UK)-I started with the US version and it got dull and repetitive. Seinfeld-duh Curb Your Enthusaism-awesome. Extras-I like this show just as much as the original Office. Stephen Merchant is hilarious as is the guest stars http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43sbtkQM6zcThe IT Crowd-Absolutely hilarious british sitcom. Highly recommended. Modern Family-Yes it's new and it's still in it's first season but I think it's really, really funny.

I've caught a few episodes of this recently and it is really funny. Haven't seen the UK version yet but looked it up and saw that it stars the man who played Arthur in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy...

1. Arrested Development
If it is indeed in the same category as other sit-coms, I can't place the second one any higher than...
6. Simpsons (TIE) 6. South Park (many episodes are blindingly brilliant and funny) 8. M*A*S*H (for its day) 9. Fawlty Towers (for its day) 10. Soap (for its day)

Re: Your Top 10 Situation Comedies...
I'll go against the grain and NOT mention Arrested Development, because I've never seen it.
I don't really watch too much TV, but I enjoyed these (in no particular order):
Friends The Simpsons (The first six or seven seasons at least, nowadays it's not as fun anymore) The Critic (Funniest show I've ever seen) Just Shoot Me (The "Donnie" episode made me piss my pants) Two and a Half Men The Big Bang Theory Extras (Clive Owen's appearance is proof enough this show is funny) The Office (Expected to hate this; it's actually pretty amusing) The IT Crowd (Glad someone else mentioned this show; deserves to be better known) Stressed Eric (This lasted what, six episodes? It was hilarious though; I can't be the only one that's seen it!!)

Re: Your Top 10 Situation Comedies...
Although I love Fry & Laurie, I would call that a sketch show rather than a sitcom. Absolutely brilliant, though. Hugh Laurie is just so talented and Stephen Fry is great. Thank god for the Cambridge Footlights. A few of my favorite bits-- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFD01r6e ... re=relatedhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwo8qxUit00http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6riY-103 ... re=related

Speaking of Fry and Laurie, is there no love for Jeeves and Wooster? I've been working my way through the series (at Season 3 at the moment) and it is brilliant.

I'd also like to add Peep Show to my list. Superb British comedy.

Re: Your Top 10 Situation Comedies...
Do animated ones count. Then
1: The Simpsons 2: All In The Family 3: The Cosby Show 4: Roseanne 5: Night Court 6: Good Times 7: Cheers 8: The Golden Girls 9: The Jeffersons 10: Two and A Half Men
Runner up: Seinfeld
While I do admit to an enjoyment of Gilligan's Island", "Martin", "Laverne and Shirley" and "The Fresh Prince" I cannot rank them as anything higher than guilty pleasures.

Re: Your Top 10 Situation Comedies...
Honestly, I don't think that many pre-90s sitcoms hold up that well these days. I mean, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, arguably the most popular/acclaimed sitcom of the 70s even feels kind of trite by today's standards. Most of these shows, it seems, still survive on the 'nostalgia' and 'guilty pleasure' (or 'cheese') factors. And I have to say I just can't watch any more of these conventional, shot-in-front-of-a-studio-audience sitcoms anymore (though CBS seems to be the only ones who still produce these). I've become too spoiled by Arrested Development, Malcolm in the Middle, Scrubs, South Park, etc.
