Post Modern Family
Just saw two episodes of this show the other day. I absolutely loved it. I think every casting decision was nailed perfectly, and although the film style is highly derivative of 'The Office', the show is equally as cutting and funny as 'The Office' in numerous aspects (and is on a higher level of comedy than recent seasons of that particular show).

It is not exactly a great show yet by a good stretch, but it has an alarming amount of potential and it never takes the easy way out of a comical situation. I especially enjoy Ed O'Neill finding yet another reason to schmooze over Westerns in a sitcom. And the Western in question is 'The Gunfighter'? Man has taste...

The title and promotional material made it look like a typical sitcom on a quick glance, but it's much better than that.

Although it's not as well-written as Arrested Development, it comes closer than anything else has recently. The cast/chemistry is great, and once they really hit their stride this show could be truly excellent.

If this can set up situations in future seasons like Arrested Development did, I'll cry tears of happiness for reals.

I saw a single episode and it wasn't too shabby. Ms. Vergara doesn't have a natural gift for acting, but she has an attribute (or two) that more than compensate. I'll give the entire season a try when it's out on dvd.

A bump for Modern Family's latest episode. I haven't seen most of them, but I did catch the latest one and was treated to a glorious Ed Norton appearance. Nice to see him use his comedic timing again.

Just wrapped up Season Two the other day, this show is fantastic.

Best performers are Eric Stonestreet and Ty Burrell, who continuously steal scenes whenever they are on. Very much like Arrested Development, in that it thrives in taking awkward misunderstandings and hatching the rest of the episode's entirety on that misconception.

Without question one of the best shows on TV right now, and hands down the best comedy on TV currently.

I would disagree and say Louie is far superior.

Louie is definitely a fine show, but the writing and acting of Modern Family eclipse it in my mind. There is certainly a lot of subtlety and brilliance in Louie, but sometimes the darkness is a little too much. An all-around phenomenal ensemble cast effort is tougher to capture than one man's performance.

With that said, the two shows are definitely close, but the plotlines and genuine charm of 'Family' is much stronger than Louie, in my opinion.

I hardly watch any tv these days, but I caught a few minutes of this show the other night. I saw Ed O'Neill's (hope that spelling is right) character going door-to-door with a kid selling wrapping paper. Very funny. Hopefully I'll have time in the future to catch some full episodes, looks like a great show.

Please, Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Of course, some say that HBO isn't TV.

Yeah, I think Curb Your Enthusiasm is the best comedy on tv right now.

To be honest, I think that The Big Bang Theory, How I met Your Mother and 30 Rock are better comedies than Modern Family. For me, Modern Family had a great first season; there were some good episodes and there was clear potential in the cast. However, season two was a disappointment: the characters became caricatures, the storylines were a bit stale and, consequently, the show wasn't all that funny. Season three, I reckon, has gotten off to a rocky start; in my opinion only the second episode of the season, "When Good Kids Go Bad", has matched the quality of the first season.

How Curb Your Enthusiasm has lasted so long I will never know, I just do not get the appeal of Jerry Seinfeld at all.

Sounds like judging a show without ever having watched it. Jerry has nothing to do (creative decisions) with this show at all.

Still doesn't change the fact that Curb Your Enthusiasm just isn't funny. Neither is How I Met Your Mother, NPH deserves a better show.

Curb is getting a little long in the tooth although the most recent series was a solid return to form but Curb has more classic hilarious moments in a single season of 12 episodes than MF has had in the 40 or so from 2 seasons worth. Ohhh flash mobs how delightfully relevant.

Speaking of Modern Family why the hell does this show have the talking head sequences it seems like nothing more than a cheap emulation of The Office and adds absolutely nothing to the show. They should ditch it. I do watch it fairly often and Ty Burr is fantastic and while It’s certainly a few notches ahead of typical network shite like Two and a Half Men, Big Bang etc i’ll stick with Louie, Archer, Parks and Recreation the laughs don’t come forced for me on those ones.

Yes, I struggled to get through just one episode of "Curb" The whole time I just kept thinking "that's supposed to be funny?" Same goes for The Office, I love Steve Carrel, but even he couldn't make that miserable show worth watching, and now that he's left, there's even less reason to bother with it. How I Met Your Mother is just OK, it's something i'll watch if there's nothing else on. I'm finding myself more interested in watching sitcoms from the past rather then any of the recent ones.

'Curb' somewhat lost me in the middle of season four or so. I do have interest getting back to it. The first two seasons of that show are still two of the best I have seen from a comedy TV series, but Season 3 was a big decline, and Season 4 was kind of continuing in that decline when I took a temporary break from it.

Modern Family produces numerous great instances of slap-stick humor followed by moments of genuine sympathy and care for its characters, and the writing maintains its sharp, biting tone throughout.

If you are thinking about giving the show a try, watch episode 7 of season 2, in which one of the dad characters is driven to insanity by one fire alarm in the house that keeps beeping due to low battery life, but he can't figure out which one it is. Hysterically brilliant.

I’m somewhat baffled by the lack of love here toward Curb Your Enthusiasm, but each to their own I suppose. In my opinion, in comparison to many other shows, Curb Your Enthusiasm has maintained a rare level of quality throughout all of its eight seasons; it’s smart, funny and the cast have incredible chemistry with one another. I’d say that the exchanges between Larry David and J. B. Smoove alone completely dwarfs the level of humour attained by Modern Family.

To me, Modern Family’s “moments of genuine care and sympathy” often to me come across as rather forced and, consequently, a little cheesy.

Yeah, I reckon those sequences seem a little out of place - although, I kind of understand why they have done it given current trends in television and cinema.

Just caught up on all episodes a few days ago. Phil and Luke Dunphy have become two of my most favorite TV people ever. Remind me a lot of of my relationship with my own dad (minus their adorable geekiness and Phil's sometimes dumbness).
