The 'Blood-Soaked, Limbs Hacked Exploitation Cinema' Thread

Post The 'Blood-Soaked, Limbs Hacked Exploitation Cinema' Thread
Like the 'Last Movie You Watched Thread' but for movies that feature people hung from meat hooks, eyes gouged out, cheerleaders gutted like fish, and more of the most depraved, insanely violent images to grace this side of the drive-in.

I want examples, people. On this monday morning I want titles, descriptions... whatever of the most brutal exploitation cinema you can possibly think of. I'm talking Cannibal Holocaust. I'm talking Blood Feast. If you've seen The Witch Who Came From the Sea and it left an impression I want to hear about it.

The more horrifying, the better. The further the movie gets from political correctness the more I'd like to hear about it. If a woman gets raped by a tree you need to write in ASAP. If a man has to murder his relatives to piece together a child for himself I need to know.

This is a call to arms, people of Reelviews. Give me the sickest shit you've seen. I want to read this thread and have my stomach turn.

The only rule is this: keep it weird. We've all seen Hostel but we haven't all been exposed to the likes of Don't Look in the Basement.

I want to read this thread and think "Man, you people have seen some fucked up things."

Make me proud.

-- EDIT --

As I wrote in this post, I'm taking recommendations. Or, in clearer language: you can force me to watch any 15 movies you see fit. Kind of like that Make James Watch a Movie contest but without the long wait and, really, the contest. I'm taking recommendations from now until the list is filled. Updates'll be in this post thanks to the handy EDIT feature. Also, they gotta be available from Netflix.

I submit Ilsa, She-Wolf of the SS- sure, it's not a pure horror exploitation flick, but there are blood and guts aplenty.

Anyone notice how, every so often, 80% of the forum members take a collective break for a few days? I'm going to sleep in 20 or so minutes and thought I'd check the health of this thread only to find that there's been only a handful of posts today. Sometimes the forum goes down for a little while so there's always that possibility.

Anyway.

I knew you'd be into it. All of your selections are brilliant examples of how direct-to-video is the new drive-in. I'm going to bite the bullet and rent the Troma-produced Beware: Children At Play not because it sounds particularly good but because the poster is hilarious.

Image

I enjoy every Troma movie I see -- Lloyd Kaufman and his crew bring a commendable amount of energy to some of the stupidest ideas that people with cameras think up. My personal favorite at the time of this post is Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead, a delightful chimera of grisly horror, slapstick comedy, musical numbers, and untold amounts of bad taste. It isn't as brilliant as Braindead (aka Dead Alive) but it's almost as much fun.

A true classic submission. This movie is infamous. I'd love to see it but forgot about it long before torrents became popular. Rob Zombie's trailer in the middle of Grindhouse reminded me briefly and now, thanks to Ragnarok73, I'll be checking this one out ASAP. It'll be the first movie of its type that I'll have seen.

I'll submit the boner shrinking, male subconcious ulitmate fear inducing, Teeth. Wow. Just wow. In case you don't know, Teeth is akin to Hard Candy but with a little more bite.

That was wonderful. Doing some easy detective work revealed the movie from which this truly hilarious scene comes from is called Lik Wong (or King of Strength or Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky).

I'll say this: Vexer knows how to have a good time. I'd wager that not only has he seen more movies than me in the past year but he's probably enjoyed them 10 times more than I have the movies I've watched.

The trailer for Beware! Children At Play:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITRdTe4iP0Y

The trailer, I should say, is a master class on how to make a sleazy b-movie trailer.

And so this idea came to me: do as Vexer does and watch some crazy exploitation cinema. I just re-joined, for the tenth time, Netflix in order to do just that. The next 12 movies I watch are going to be recommendations from this thread so, please, keep them coming. The more brutal, horrifying, and over-the-top the better the recommendation. So long as the movie would be comfy on a drive-in screen I'm at home with watching it. The only one I'll be avoiding is Cannibal Holocaust because, no matter how good an example of exploitation cinema it may be, I don't really want to watch endangered species get sliced up for an extra dose of realism. Fake blood, fake brains, blah blah blah is all fair game, of course.

Keep the titles coming, people. Any links to trailers or scenes from a movie will be watched by me.

As I've said it before and will it say again, Salò or the 120 Days of Sodom and The Girl Next Door (2007) are the two most disturbing films that I've ever seen. If you can sit through both of those without flinching or closing you're eyes at least once, then you are probably a sociopath sicko.

I've seen Cannibal Holocaust and it's really quite something. I had some issues watching it because I have problems watching sexual violence against women and found an early scene in which a woman is raped with a rock particularly disturbing. The first half of the movie is an unrepentant exploitation movie, with lots of breasts, the occasional penis, violence, etc. Then the second half turns into a strong condemnation of film violence and the voyeuristic component involved with watching/enjoying a film about extreme violence. With lots of horror, to be sure.

The second half of the film is by far the stronger, though tempered by the hypocrisy involved with making an exploitation film which sharply criticizes the genre. I don't think it's terribly good (I gave it **1/2) but it's smarter than the average "blood-soaked, limbs-hacked' type film.

Salo is the worst film I've ever seen. The only zero star film I've had the misfortune to see since I started rating them.

I second The Girl Next Doorhttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt0830558/

The female circumsizing scene....*shudder*

If you are looking for truly sickening movies for reasons best left unexplored, you may find what you're looking for in the French arthouse abomination Baise-Moi (2000), which is really just another rape-revenge movie. A bored prostitute murders her roommate in an argument about rent. An occasional porn starlet gets gang-raped (with full close-ups of the penetration) and subsequently beaten up by her boyfriend, whom she kills. Both women team up to lure men with sex and punish them with their guns and high heals. There's also a massacre in a swinger club, if I remember it correctly (I have since tried to erase the film from my memory). Outside of the seven Nazi propaganda films you cannot watch legally outside of an academic context, this is the most despicable movie I've ever seen. Enjoy.

Well the forums were down for a few hours last night...don't you feel silly blaming us when we couldn't get in.

For me, Inside. See what happens when a man gets shot in head at point-blank range with magnum or what happens when you need to do a c-section with only scissors and no anesthesia.

I don't know that I would call these exploitation films though...

Okay if not Cannibal Holocaust, then how about Cannibal Ferox? That film got banned in 31 countries, a fact that's proudly displayed on the DVD cover!

And so we come to the problem: what the hell is an exploitation movie?

The definition I'm going with is a minor variation on the general: any film that uses sordidness/violence/sex/torture/anti-social naughtiness as a way to entertain, shock, amuse, frighten, or move the audience. Broaden the definition of any of the words in the definition and you've got my full meaning. The Girl Next Door, from what I've read, serves to enlighten the viewer to a kind of depressing reality through wanton violence and generally despicable behavior. It fits my definition.

Salo may throw off some viewers by its inclusion in Criterion's esteemed list but, at the end of the eye-gouging filled day, its intention is to shock the viewer into submission with the horrors of fascism. The film goes on and on. It may be an art film but its definitely, no buts about it, a total exploitation shocker.

Thanks for the entries, people. Don't stop now!

I have to be quick here because I've got my job to get back to:

I've seen Salo and don't need to see it again -- I learned enough the first time. I've seen Teeth and wasn't as delighted by it as I'd hoped.

I've added The Girl Next Door (2007) to the list as (a) I wanted to see a more recent release and (b) I wanted to get the torture movie out of the way ASAP before moving on to the cannibal flick.

Cannibal Ferox has been added to the list because I needed a cannibal movie (there was a whole genre of them around the earlys 80s). I'm looking for something in the female rape/revenge (I feel just pathetic typing those words) genre, something from the mid-70s that played a double feature kind of audience.

I did some light research on this movie and found that I'll be checking it out if and only if there are no entries given on some 60s/70s fare. I've seen a lot of home invasion movies and, even if this one manages to make me vomit all the way to Indiana, I'm going to try to see if the next home invasion flick I sit through has more than endless sadism. Like, for example, lots of bare breasts with the requisite hacksaws.

keep looking if you want something more than an ultra-violent home invasion movie.
