Thanks to steifmo for the idea and remember, keep putting you ideas in the poll ideas thread.

And this poll is pretty self-explanatory.

I've only been to one, Wolverine, but I'm not adverse to going to more....the showings are always sold out though.

None of the choices really fit for me. I'm not adverse to going, as I am a night owl, but I've just never managed to get to a midnight showing.

Same for me. My problem is more that midnight showings just don't happen over here. During school vacation they will start a film as late as 11, but it's just standard multiplex fare and even then, it's only after the film has opened on time. It's not like you get it on midnight of the day it's opening.

I'd never be able to stay awake for a midnight showing, no matter how badly i want to see the iflm that's premiering, and besides where I live, they get sold out insanely fast anyways.

I used to go to them all the time. I've probably been to about 15-20 of them. They're cool because you're sitting with people who are genuinely excited for that particular film, not just going out to see a movie over the weekend. I've seen crappy films and I've seen great ones in that environment, but it's always fun because everyone is so excited. I think the midnight showing of The Dark Knight was the best. It sounds corny, but you could literally feel the anticipation.

Unfortunately, I'm solidly in the workforce now (AKA, feel old), and I just can't get home at 3am, get up at 530am for work, and expect to be functional. I haven't been to one since TDK, I don't think. Maybe I'll make an exception for Inception.

I go to two or three per year, but I'd go to more if I had more friends that are interested in going with me. I only have a few up here at State.

Last year, I did Where the Wild Things Are and Avatar at the very least, maybe one more. I also saw Antichrist at 10:00, which isn't midnight but it may as well be.

Is it cheating to reply to my own poll idea?

My first experience with midnight showings was The Fellowship of the Ring. After I left the theatre I knew that I was then hooked. I've spoke before about how I love the 'event' that is going to see films and midnight showings are an absolute must. Pete touched on it, but you get the best crowds at midnight showings. Dedicated fans (and girlfriends that are forced to tag along.....luckily i'm dating a trooper and she never complains) that will sacrifice sleep to be the first to experience the film is what cinema is about. I have been to probably around 25 or so, the last being Avatar. I have at least 6 or 7 to go to this year (Iron Man 2, Harry Potter 7.1, Inception, Shutter Island, Clash of the Titans, Alice in Wonderland, and others possibly).

It's something that film fans should experience at least once.

How can this be cheating...and if it did, I'll allow it.

If I'm interested in watching the movie and it has a midnight release that is close, then I go. If not, then I wait to the next day. Now if it is a movie I really want to see, then I go out of town to a midnight release. Either way, I go to quite a few a year. I am rarely asleep before 3 in the morning.

I and the wife were attending a showing and a male (between the ages of 13-17) who had a mullet -way beyond it's sell by date- and a button-up collar shirt, started talking to us as though we were a taxi-driver. He regaled us with the previous night's results from the WWF as well as some other subjects about which he seemed quite enamoured. Reality was an exit that he'd passed several miles back. We tried to appear interested until we finally were allowed into the theater and sought out seats.

As we took our seats (not near mullet) the wife whispered to me "He's not going to get laid for a very long time."

-Midnight showings?? I'd be happy to go to one if someone could convince me that I wouldn't be in a room filled with expired mullets.

That really depends on where you live. The Music Box in Chicago always has midnight showings but I only went for Inland Empire. Now I live near Scranton, PA. There is no midnight flicks let alone a decent theater nearby. How I long to get the hell out of here!

It was nuts. My friend dug the flick but I thought it was a posterchild for why producers exist. Inland Empire was David Lynch run amuck. But he was there, in person, to introduce the film. That was badass.

Back in the days when the St. Louis Tivoli Theatre was but 4 blocks from my home I would see a lot of midnight showings (no premieres). I saw, for the first time, several movies at the stroke of midnight: The Goonies, The Matrix, Fight Club, A Clockwork Orange, a 3D porn film called The Disco Dolls in Hot Skin (this remains the best midnight showing I've ever been to), Eraserhead, and several other bizarre cult films.

EDIT: Voted for "Every so often but not all the time".

Major, we've discussed each being from St. Louis before, but it is quite enjoyable to come on this board and see the Tivoli mentioned. Those summer midnight showings are the best. I never thought I'd get the opportunity to see Blazing Saddles, Blade Runner, or The Goonies in theaters. During the summer, I always see what the midnight showings are. Great theatre.
