You have given a talk on A Serious Man. Can you give any more information, like who the audience was? Is there a link?

Hey James,
Just out of curiosity, how would you rank Tarantino's four-star films. I guess Pulp Fiction would still (rightfully) occupy the apex but where would you rank IB with respect to Reservoir Dogs? Btw, I totally agree with your statement regarding Kristen Stewart. Way too attractive and talented of an actress to have the Twilight films as her only lasting legacy to cinema. Adventureland would have made my top ten list as well if I had one.

I plan on seeing all the films on that list (I''ve seen 4 of them). I agree that Adventureland and IB are amazing, but District 9 and Avatar are 3 stars for me. I'm getting ready to watch my blu-ray copy of 500 Days of Summer and as soon as the weather gets better I'm going to the theater to watch Up in the Air.

Bravo sir, I think this right here should be the ReelViews mission statement. As for the list, I was surprised to see Adventureland so high on it. I was expecting it to make your Top 10, but #4 was a very pleasant surprise, as I was expecting #9 or #10. From your review and comments you've made on the film in the forums I knew you really connected with it, but I guess I underestimated just how much so you did. Nice to see a great film from way back in March get remembered at at Top 10 time.

Awesome list. Glad to see there are critics out there who understand that Top 10 lists are all in good fun and will still put them out there. (unlike Ebert)

Great list, although my intense and steadfast dislike for Adventureland will never waiver.

 Re: December 27, 2009: "The Top 10 of 2009"
I like this list a lot (and it reminded me that I still have quite a few films left to see this year). I do like District 9 slightly more than Avatar, but I understand the former being overshadowed by the latter on most people's lists. (500) Days of Summer, Adventureland , Up in the Air, and Inglourious Basterds would all be on my list (Adventureland maybe as an honorable mention), with IB as my #1. Missing from James' list, but making mine are Star Trek, Coraline, and Fantastic Mr. Fox. ( My list of top 10 sci-fi films.)

My thoughts on that movie, too. This is why movies fasciante me. We watched the same thing and one of us put it on a top ten list while extolling the performance of one of the leads, and I thought it was pure dreck with phoned in performances.

This could be the Best Picture nominee list, except for Adventureland.

I find the lack of Up disturbing.

I'm more surprised by the lack of The Princess and the Frog, since it was a very enthusiastic review and he did give it three-and-a-half stars and on the rare occasion he gaves that rating to an animated film, they end up making his top ten list of the year. In fact, how many films of this year did you award three-and-a-half stars to?

I would be happy to see it get a nomination for Best Original Screenplay but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

It was off-line and, to the best of my knowledge, not recorded.

"500 Days" and "Inglourious Basterds" are long-shots. "The Blind Side" and "Invictus" are almost certain to get nominations. So I'll probably be fairly well in synch with the Academy.
