Post And the winner is...
Unless I'm misreading Phil's leaderboard or he hasn't updated it recently, Ram would be the winner. We all know what that means...

I'm sure he already knows what film he wants reviewed. But, for fun, I thought I'd open up this thread to give others a chance to provide suggestions. When he feels suitably "inspired," he can chime in and tell me what he wants.

I'd like to have the title before December 24. The review will go up some time in January.

Come on, tell us.

I wasn't anywhere close, but I had a few titles kicking around in my head: Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Home Alone, Batman Returns. Ram can feel free to choose any of those. ;)

How about:
Beverly Hills Cop
Jumpin Jack Flash
Lethal Weapon 2(or 3),
The Running Man
Beverly Hills Cop 2
The Dead Pool
If Looks Could Kill
Double Take
Year Of The Dragon
Road House
Black Dog
Tango And Cash
Rapid Fire
Exit Wounds
Half Past Dead
Bird On A Wire
Stakeout
King Of New York
Hudson Hawk
Adventures Of Pluto Nash
Ricochet
Toy Soldiers
Deep Cover
Trespass

That's all I can think of for now, i'll be happy if at least one of those films gets reviewed.

I was going to probably force him to review a Seagal movie....probably Pistol Whipped even though I'm not sure if that meets James availability rule

Congrats Ram!

Everything I've heard about Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom [imdb.com] makes me feel that James has to experience this "film". Ram mentioned somewhere that he's considering it, so I'll hold out hope. He's a nicer guy than me, however, and I think he'll pick something that James might actually enjoy.

Thanks Mr. B. Thanks Ed.

I do have one in mind. But I'm going to hold out a little bit on it. I'm trying to see a couple more movies until I decide. I don't want to make Mr. B watch something I haven't seen.

Guys, please...give me suggestions (come on oafolay). I said it in one of the competition threads that I would love to find a film that Mr. B hasn't seen that could crack his Top 100. I realize that's going to be extremely difficult. I also thought it would be fun to have him watch something absolutely horrible just so we could get a kick out of the review...but I don't want to torture Mr. B either.

Would Salo be considered torture?

Check out some of the top movies from The Great Movies section. They may not necessarily crack his top 100, but I'm sure that quite a few are at least 3.5 stars. Don't let us push you into something though. You won this competition and you deserve to choose something YOU want James to see, no matter what the rest of us think.

That's exactly what I have been doing Ed. My thoughts, though, are that Mr. B probably has seen all those...maybe not.

And it's not about being pushed into something. I respect the majority of the opinions on this forum. You guys have seen way more movies and have a greater understanding of film than I do...so I value what you have to say.

Having said that, Mr. B won't be watching any Seagal movies. Sorry Pats.

No i'm sure it does, I remember him saying that he would watch any film requested as long as it was on Netflix or availible on DVD from Amazon.

It had to be both from what I read.

I was going to do Edward Scissorhands since I can't find a review from him for it and I love that film. Would like to know what he thinks of it.

I like the idea of having Mr. Berardinelli review a movie he hasn't seen that might make the Top 100 (or at least be a candidate for a four-star review). So why not just show Mr. Berardinelli some compiled list of the best movies of all time and ask him if there are any on it he hasn't watched? Perhaps he was hoping just to be given a specific title, but if he was given the choice of either picking from a Best Movies list or watching Salo ... :)

As for what Best Movies list he should choose from, any that isn't biased towards recent, popular movies should do. I like the list Tim Dirks compiled (http://www.filmsite.org/momentsindx.html), or perhaps even better would be one that also includes foreign films, like the Village Voice critics' poll (http://www.filmsite.org/villvoice.html). Tim Dirks's Filmsite web site provides a lot of different Best Movies lists to choose from: http://www.filmsite.org/greatlists2.html. And the list in the Great Movies section of this forum also certainly appears to be a good choice. Does anyone know the source of that list? In my casual glancing through its pages, I was unable to find a specific identification of its source.

And it wouldn't surprise me at all if there were some (or even a number of) movies on any of these lists that Mr. Berardinelli hasn't watched. Given that Roger Ebert has been reviewing films for decades and tries to be as thorough as he can, I was shocked to hear him admit when the AFI Top 100 list first came out that, despite its skew toward recent, more mainstream titles, there were two movies on that list he hadn't seen.

My suggestions are Man With the Movie Camera, Grave of the Fireflies, Sullivan's Travels, Shoah (if it counts), The Black Balloon (2008), Night and Fog (if it counts), Plan 9 From Outer Space, The Birth of a Nation, Intolerance, Threads (if it counts), Distant (by Nuri Bilge Ceylan), The Red Shoes, Peeping Tom, The Haunting (1963), The Vanishing, Last Year at Marienbad, M, Wings of Desire, Ballad of a Solider, and Awakenings.

And Cannibal Holocaust. :D

How about having James complete James Cameron's filmography by reviewing Piranha II: The Spawning?

All of my suggestions have been officially demoted on the grounds that Piranha II may be the most awesome suggestion of all time.

No. It's legit. But the question is whether this is really what you want to "spend" your win on. If it was me, I'd find something that I feel strongly about one way or the other and get a review for that.

By the way, if you pick something awful in the hopes of getting a humorous review, you may be wasting your pick. My mood when I write reviews of bad movies impacts how funny it is. If I'm not in a good mood, it may turn out to be nasty and scathing.

Technically it needs to be both, but if it's available via netflix and not for sale on amazon, I'll consider it.

Has James seen Mishima: a Life in Four Chapters? It would be criminal if we passed up a chance to get a review of the best film of the 1980s up here on Reelviews.

How about 8 1/2? I just watched it, and on the heels of Nine, it might make for an interesting review. Plus it's just a damn good movie.
