Godfather II for one reason, DeNiro.

As much as I might contend with James Kunz's ridiculous argument that the sequel was 'unnecessary', there is nothing else I can say except, 'The Godfather' is one of those rare films that truly has no weak link, flaw, or inadequacy. In fact, every single piece of the film is polished to perfection, and the ending, which was powerful in Part II, is devastating here. The choice is obvious, only muddied by revisionists who look to topple the first film's insurmountable stature (in that, no other film with these characters and this storyline could be anywhere near as good).

'The Godfather II' might be the greatest sequel of all-time, but it is accorded that title only as often as the first film is named the greatest film of all time.

Except that phantom punch that Sonny lands on Carlo. Annoys me every time I see it. Can't believe there was no other take or edit they could have used to mask that.

It's a great movie, but Godfather 2 kinda sorta was totally unnecessary. You could've squeezed the 15 minutes of young Vito stuff into the first movie and you wouldn't have lost anything. Everything that happens to Michael's character in Part 2 was thoroughly implied at the end of Part 1
