Sparkling On The Western Side

Wednesday, Nov. 18: BLIND SIDE
Thursday, Nov. 19: TWILIGHT: NEW MOON
Saturday, Nov. 21: ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT (1930)

Last week saw me winning in style -a fairly rare feat on both ends- and a good number of people sulking at their misunderstanding of F.W. Murnau's brilliance. Tsk tsk, ReelViews.

This week, we have a movie about sparkling vampire-critters in love (complete with Dakota 'Fangs' Fanning getting chance to further smash her teenie-bop film identity of the - extremely recent - past), 'Blind Side', which continues the Hollywood experiment of how long it will take for Sandra's Bullocks horrifyingly bad hair style to literally make audience member wretch in nauseous agony, and the Lewis Milestone 1930 classic 'All Quiet On The Western Front', which may make audiences feel similarly, for better reasons. Hopefully, this week will help decide who wins the overall year-end contest and receives... a prize?

Or two?

Stay posted.

Yes, I'm taking a gamble on New Moon but it's worth it since the book is miles ahead of the first book. And since the Twilight movie was miles ahead of the book, I'm thinking the same's going to be true.

Unless it goes in the other direction, then God help us all.

The Blind Side: ** This flick looks so formulaic that it hurts and Sandra Bullock is unlikely to help things much
New Moon: **1/2 I am sooooo sure that James has been awaiting this one with baited breath...ha, ha, ha. He probably won't hate it though since he didn't seem to hate the first one.
All Quiet on the Western Front: ***1/2 A classic that has probably aged well with time

I just finished watching "All Quiet..." and I must say I didn't think it aged well at all. The battle scenes were incredible, but the acting was all kinds of awful and the anti-war message was way too heavy. That being said, it was made in 1930 so I guess I have to put it into perspective a little.

The Blind Side: 2.5
New Moon: 2
All Quiet on the Western Front: 3
