 Re: Best anime shows
My TV anime experience was Toonami and everything else. And there was that obsession with DBZ

i loved DBZ as a kid but I eventually outgrew it, I got more into Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh after that, and alot of people will laugh at this, but I was always a big fan of Sailor Moon.

I won't laugh...I liked Sailor Moon. I outgrew it and now looking at those guys who lust and drool over her makes me feel dirty for even watching that show.

 Re: Best anime shows
Dragon Ball (plus Z) deserves more credit than it gets, but perhaps less outright obsession. I've heard that it has been redone with much of the filler removed, which can only be a good thing.
The list in the first post includes movies, which kind of have a leg up on their produced-for-TV relatives in terms of budget, production quality, and whatnot. From a technical standpoint, comparing Akira to anything made on a television scale is pretty unfair.

 Re: Best anime shows
My view is if someone isn't explicitly spamming and at least makes sensible words that contribute in the right place, I have no problems. Besides, I don't really care about sigs unless they're like NC-17 or something.

 Re: Best anime shows
You know I've never gotten into anime but am seriously considering it. This might be a good starting point since I really liked the film. How do they compare?

 Re: Best anime shows
The movie is very philosophical, more sci-fi about ideas, meditative even. The show is more action-based, built around the world of the film but not at all similar in tone. At first I thought the show was vastly inferior, but now I think of it more as carving out its own identity. The second movie falls somewhere in between.

 Re: Best anime shows
The show is more thinking and ideas then about action. Try making this into an American series, people would rather watch lame reality shows.

 Re: Best anime shows
I'm not as big on anime as I used to be, sticking mainly with Miyazaki films anymore, but I do have a soft spot for Cowboy Bebop and Neon Genesis Evangelion. Cliche as those answers may be, they are held in high regard for a reason.
