The idea behind this thread is devastatingly simple; you post what song you are listening to right mow as you are surfing the net. Remember, it has to be a song, not an album (unless you're listening to something like Jethro Tull's 'Thick As A Brick').

Husker Du - 'Celebrated Summer'. My lord what a masterpiece of guitar playing :!:

Switches - "Lay Down The Law"

Killers, Franz Ferdinand and The Hives all rolled into one catchy 2:42 track

Husker Du is great!

Now playing for me:
My Girls by Animal Collective

Their new album (Merriweather Post Pavilion) is fantastic all the way through.

Agreed, Tevor, a great album :) I'm also partial to the newest by Antony and the Johnsons ... that guy has the most astoundingly interesting voices in indie music these days.

Yeah, I liked it--but not as much as I Am a Bird Now. Great voice though, you're right.

Yeah I Am A Bird Now will be hard for him to top ... Secretly Canadian sure knows how to find great acts and let them do their own thing, though. I have a lot of respect for them as a label.

The Smiths - There Is A Light That Never Goes Out. For my money one of the best songs of the 80's. Those strings in the second verse always send my flying high

Nick Cave's amazing cover of In the Ghetto off of his album From Her to Eternity.

Animal Collective is great, I really dig "My Girls" from their new album. I'm not listening to anything currently but I really love the new M83, Portishead, and Fleet Foxes albums.

Nick Drake - Day Is Done

The most criminally underrated artist in music history.

Nice.
Stay Positive was the best album of 2008 in my opinion.
Separation Sunday was great of course too - "Cattle and the Creeping Things" being my favorite track.

Cheers! I love THS fans. Saw them a couple of weeks ago - best live band going around. Best live band I have ever had the privilege of seeing. Got to meet and cuddle with Craig Finn. Exciting. Stay Positive as best album of 08 only rivaled by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, "Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!"

Great to see some Cave fans, Dig Lazarus Dig was probably my favourite album of 08.

The Hold Steady are a bunch of hacks. Boring bar rock hyped up as something relevant. It's nothing unique, it has no edge, and the band has a rudimentary understanding of their instruments. I could understand being into it if you've never heard a band trying to hash out covers in a dingy bar or at a shitty wedding.

I'm currently listening to the new POS album, Never Better. Drumroll is about as exciting as any hip-hop track I've heard in the last few years. The rest of the album is equally spectacular, his style rests somewhere between Sage Francis and Eminem. He has Sage's gift with lyrics, but Eminem's way with words.

I'm also still listening to the Zazen Boys's album '4' from last year. Hannoji is one of my favourite songs of the last few years. The drumming is relentless.

I've also got the Caretaker on repeat right now for working. It sounds like a ghost playing back old ballroom music to you through the after-life. It's downright creepy, but excellent working music.
