How Well Do You Think You Sorta Kinda Know James? (Week 31)
Whip It Good!I just had to....Tuesday, September 29: A SERIOUS MAN Wednesday, September 30: THE INVENTION OF LYING Thursday, October 1: WHIP IT Hola, muchachos. Welcome back after a rough Week 30, where everybody underestimated James' love of Bruce Willis films. This week we have a Coens feature about one man's quest to be a good mench, a Ricky Gervais vehicle about the death of truth, and Drew Barrymore's debut directorial effort about a Texas beauty queen who goes derby. Two of the three films have been written a good deal about - by James himself - so excessive failure will be noted (i.e. pointed out and laughed at), or, in more theatrical terms: May God have mercy on your soul if you get the Toronto films wrong Good luck, H everyone! Hopefully E this will be a L week full of winners L and happy-face N smileys across O all of ReelViews! !

Re: How Well Do You Think You Sorta Kinda Know James? (Week 31)
Serious Man-***1/2 I'm not sure if James would give this 3 or 3.5 judging from his review so I'll give it 3.5 since that seems to be what everyone else is doing
Invention Of Lying-**1/2 No questions about this one
Whip It-*** Ellen Page might make it marginally worthwhile and Kristen Wiig might steal some scenes with her trademarked brand of strangeness but the presence of Juliette Lewis (whom James and I both can't stand for the most part) and the fact that this is the directorial debut of Drew Barrymore will probably hurt things a little.

I'm hoping with Whip It.
Hey Evenflow, unless Week 27/28 (9 and Flame and Citron) counted as two wins, I should be at 9 wins overall instead of the 10 I've got listed on the leaderboard.
I don't want to run away with it, not yet at least.

Re: How Well Do You Think You Sorta Kinda Know James? (Week 31)
"This week we are doubling up and trimming down before a return to normalcy with week 29. Weeks 27 and 28 will be brethren, and the winner(s) of this week shall get TWO points for a victory. The films on display include a pandemic variation on the road trip, 'Carriers', the Tim Burton-produced pot apocalyptic CG adventure, '9', and the war-time buddy film 'Flame & Citron'. Hopefully, the boost in rewards will provide some of the smaller names a chance to advance more quickly on the Leaderboard, or even give someone a multiple-win debut. Of course, it could just as well end up that one of the big baddies such as oafolay or ram1312 step up and seal the deal with a win." My picks:A Serious Man: 3.5 The Invention Of Lying: 2.5 Whip It: 2.5

Re: How Well Do You Think You Sorta Kinda Know James? (Week 31)
Well, here's to hoping that Whip It is any good! When James mentioned in his review of The Invention of Lying that it's wasn't the worst film he'd seen this month or even this week, that didn't give me much hope for Whip It. With any luck, that won't be the case.
