Post Re: TAKEN
I saw this film last year and I thought it was ok.
I am a big fan of Liam Neesan. He has a depth to him that very actors can convey.
If this film is successfull I could easily see a sequel. If they could mae a sequel for National Treasure then why not this?

Good points
1: I feel that this was a good role for him, especially if you consider the fact that if his charactor was coming after you to kill you then you would be very petrified.
2: I thoght the fight scenes were well staged, they were dirty and I liked the fact that the main charactor fought dirty and had no issues doing so.

Bad points:
*******************There be spoilers ahead*******************************************
[Reveal] Spoiler:
1: His wife. I didn't her.
2: As a thriller there was very little suspence. At no point during the film did I ever doubt that he would get his daughter back.
3: When he was finished he just went home. If I had caused the amount of damage that he had caused i would no be able to just go home.

Be good.

I heard this film was edited down to get a PG-13 rating, so therefore i'll wait to see it on DVD when it's released uncut. It does look excellent though.

I saw Taken yesterday with a friend of mine. Its definitely one of those action films which are fun to watch in the theater but half of it is forgotten as soon as you walk out the door. Its not something I would have the patience to watch again.

Can I just say the amount of money it's making is ASTOUNDING? I haven't seen the movie and I probably won't for a while, but I am in awe at how little its weekend drops have been.

Yeah, I'm extremely surprised it's making this much. I saw it back in February of last year in France and while it was mildly entertaining, it seemed to be borderline DTV material, especially for someone of Neeson's caliber. It's one of those movies that is so silly that some parts really have to broken down to their essence in order for their full hilarity to be appreciated:
[Reveal] Spoiler:
The last 10 minutes are a race against the clock, driving against traffic to... keep his daughter's virginity from being taken. The tension is basically generated by the idea of "Will he stop him from having sex with her in time?"

This movie is defintely no classic, but what it is is is entertaining (I always wanted to use the word is three times in a row). It has no fat, no pretentiousness or anything unnecessary - it's just Liam Neeson kicking ass as brutally as he can). We all know how it will end, but the joy is in the journey. My respect for Neeson has just gone up a notch. Brilliant actor and utterly convincing while kicking butt!

He woulod be a great Frank Castle. He could bring a great depth to the charactor that was missing from the first film.

He migt not have been a great bond, he lacks the smothness required. How and ever he might have amde an excellent Bond villan.

I guess that the reason I didn't like it at all, is the fact that this movie was scripted by Luc Besson on auto-pilot. He's done it before so many times and it was called either Taxi (insert random number here) or Transporter.

Additionally, Maggie Grace's character was so annoying that I wasn't sure whether I wanted her to be saved or not...

Although the film started with a good premise, and Liam Neeson kicking ass was fun for a while, it got old quickly for me. "Average" doesn't even begin to describe the flick.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film. I took it for what it was and just watched Liam Neeson beat the shit out of everyone. All of the action scenes were Bourne style in that the fight choreographers used realistic combat scenarios with moves from Krav Maga and Eskrima. That long speech he gives that we've all seen on the countless trailers is so f***ing cool too!!!

If anyone just wants to watch all of the action scenes in sequence, you can find them on youtube.

Film described like Liam Neeson's character would say it:
Adrenaline rush. Fast cuts. Like Jason Bourne, with Important Sociopolitical Background.

I enjoyed the film. It is basically an 80s action film (like one by Steven Seagal or Arnold Schwarzenegger) with a much better actor in the lead role.

Personally I don't understand why it was held back so long for a State side release - it was available in France almost a whole year earlier. By the time it finally reached the States you could already find perfect DVD Screeners of it on the internet...

Never the less I'm really happy for its box office performance. $80 million in box office so far ain't bad for a movie that has been widely available to download for the last six odd month 8-)

Despite what the MPAA might claim, lost revenue because of downloaded movies is very, very small. Taken is an excellent example. The fact is that most people - even computer users - don't have a clue how to download an illegal copy of a movie. Those who can are part of a niche.

I would argue that the distributor's decision to delay the U.S. release of Taken until January 2009 has been validated by the amount of money it has accrued at the box office.

Indeed. Seems like a sound decision, certainly vindicated.

It's quite the enjoyable picture. I think the review was quite spot on, although I think Neeson does slightly more than pick up a pay check.

I enjoyed the flick, lots of action and whatnot. Aside from a few silly parts (random guy with a knife backstage at a pop-concert? wtf?) , I thought it was pretty decent. Neeson delivers that speech over the phone very nicely too. Expect to see that one spoofed soon! One thing is for sure - I'll never look through the window of a door on a boat again without fearing for my life.

Hopefully not in one of those "movie" movies.

Indeed. Those are truly terrible. I confess, though, to having went and seen "Superhero Movie" purely because Brent Spiner has a small cameo.
