This is a high-octane week of thrills, (literal) chills, and sci-fi pondering. The first film of the week, the third installment of the phenomenally successful Ice Age series, is out and about, perhaps ready to prove once and for all that Ray Romano sans face, TV show and supporting cast, is rather quite dull; 'Moon', a film which Ebert claimed to have echoes of '2001', featuring Sam Rockwell; and Lethal Weapon, the Richard Donner 1987 action classic (you know, the one where Mel Gibson's a crazy guy... the first one, I mean).



Can you figure out his jigsaw puzzle, can you salvage his Titanic, can you blacklight his mental hotel room? Can you see the light that perches ever so softly upon his head that makes the world and it's peoples' lives that much more enlightened? Can you see his words form a silhouette behind your very thoughts and act as a catalyst for your untrained mind? Yes, yes - you can. Vote.

Ice Age 3 - **1/2 It's rare that he gives a computer-animated film less than **1/2 even when it's underwhelming and I don't expect him to break from form here.

Moon - *** Looks like a moderately thoughtful sci-fi flick and it got some decent buzz

Lethal Weapon - *** I'd personally rate this higher as I consider it to be amongst the action-comedy elite but I'm gonna guess conservatively here

Ice Age 3: 2.0 - I think this one will hinge on how well they use the 3-D, and if James sees it in that format (is it being shown at all in 2-D?). All of the leads should slip back into their prehistoric alter-egos seamlessly, but do they get lazy this third time around? The third installment is when most series usually fall flat, hopefully this continues the downward fall from Ice Age 2.

Moon: 3.0 - Currently an 86% on RT, but as we know James doesn't always follow the crowd (My Sister's Keeper being the latest example, although I really enjoyed it as well.) To me, it seems Rockwell has been hit or miss in James' reviews, but everyone seems to be loving his performance. Hopefully I didn't go too low.

Lethal Weapon: 3.5 - One of my favorites growing up. Action packed and featuring great performances from Glover and especially Gibson (IMO), hopefully I leaned the right way between 3 and 3.5.

I made the mistake of looking at rottentomatoes and it's a little too early as of right now but the movie had an 80% tomatometer so I thought, huh, I guess this is actually good afterall.
