JB, you said 1985 was not an award-caliber year. I was wondering what are your thoughts on the Best Picture nominees for 1985. I remember you gave a strong review to Witness and we'll know your opinion of Kiss of the Spider Woman on Monday. What about The Color Purple and Prizzi's Honor? Personally I love both of those movies.

Wow...if the movie's as boring to watch as the review was boring to read....ouch.

If I remember correctly, Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters came out in 1985. As far as I'm concerned, it's one of the greatest movies ever made. I think it won something minor at Cannes, but it's the only award the film received that I know of.

Well, as predicted in the competitions section, the word "ponderous" was used.

I watched this flick last winter when it was too cold to go outside. I doubt it will be that cold again.

I remember this was a movie that my wife dragged me to, and she never heard the end of it from me (once I woke up). I agree with every word that JB wrote about this movie: lush photography, but probably the least emotional love story in the history of cinema. One thing JB didn't mention: Meryl Streep's thick Scandinavian accent was almost comical.

How did this receive 3 stars? It didn't read like a 3 star review.

She sounds almost exactly like the real woman she's portraying, though.

I like them both but don't love either.
