Good afternoon, all forumgoers, and welcome to the week 9 competitions thread. Right now, we are recovering from a major battle which left almost all of the voters for dead after one pick! This week promises to be lighter, although I have decided, in my cruel ways, to ignore 'Wolverine', because, frankly, Wolverine + Terminator + Star Trek is too much of a nerd-concession Hopefully you all know your romantic comedies...

We have the aforementioned romantic comedy, with a Dickensian twist, 'Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past', joining the descriptions-not-necessary action classic 'The Terminator' and, finally, the event film of the week, 'Star Trek', which will attempt to add a J.J. Abrams flavor to the old series while not losing too many fans (it's a delicate balance). I hope you fare well, Reel Views community, for James' tastes for a romantic comedy AND a re-vamp of his lost love of the 80's may be wildly across the board.

Ghost Of Girlfriends Past ** Probably a standard order rom-com that will be marginally redeemed by the charisma of the two leads

Star Trek *** This could potentially be the best Star Trek since Wrath of Khan in James eyes judging by the strong advance word from other critics.

Terminator ***1/2 If James is anything like me, he'll probably look past the outdated special effects and gives this one high marks for its bleak and compelling storyline and top-notch action sequences.

High hopes for ST. JJ Abrams has given me no reason to believe he's bringing junk to the table...
Terminator... this movie is a bit dated, i.e. locked in the 80's. There's no overlooking that. But it's James Cameron...
GofGP No freaking clue. I find Matthew McC to be one of the most annoying actors working today. Every actor brings a part of himself to the role, and I don't like what he brings.

Edit: GHOSTS...I heard a review on the way to work that made it sound horrible, truely horrible. Reduced it by half a star...that dreaded half star. TERMINATOR...had second thoughts. Dropped it half a star.

I'm gonna be optimistic this week.

Star Trek is a hard one because James is Trekkie at heart and needs to get over the "yoofing" on the franchise. i hope it's great but have bee burned too many times over the past ten years to believe, quite yet.
