Re: THE PINK PANTHER 2 (non-SPOILER discussion)
Hmm as we steadily increase by half a star per film, at this rate Pink Panther 6 in will be a 4 star masterpiece up for the Oscars in 2021 (assuming 3 year gaps). We can only hope Needless to say people will rush out to see it Rob

Re: THE PINK PANTHER 2 (non-SPOILER discussion)
Hmmm....you know what, I didn't exactly hate the first Pink Panther. I just hated Steve Martin and apparently I have a lot of hate for him as Clouseau. And it's not cause I think it's disrespectful cause I never saw the Sellers Panther movies but Martin can't pull off an over-the-top accent. Even when he did that Wild and Crazy guy during SNL I didn't laugh at that.

Re: THE PINK PANTHER 2 (non-SPOILER discussion)
Martin can be very funny, but he's a complete flop as Clouseau. As for Sellers - he owned the role. It's worth noting that most of the original PP movies (except perhaps A Shot in the Dark were mediocre at best. But Sellers made them better. He elevated them. He made humor from jokes that would have failed with other actors. The only time these new PP movies work for me is during the opening credits. That being said, it was nice to see John Cleese bring Basil Fawlty out of the closet.

Re: THE PINK PANTHER 2 (non-SPOILER discussion)
not surprised by the fact that pretty much every critic (including yourself) is hating the movie. I hated the first part not because of Martin's woeful acting or the insulting of the Pink Panther character, but mainly because it's a comedy that didn't make me laugh. not once. at least this sequel made you laugh a couple of times, so I guess it can't be as bad as the first part.
that said, I don't plan to watch the film. and if I do, it will probably happen a year from now while watching cable.

Re: THE PINK PANTHER 2 (non-SPOILER discussion)
Forgot to mention that I hated the first film and you could not pay me $10 to see this film. And yes, I love Monty Python!
I just saw the trailer in Hell's Kitchen on Fox. It reminded me why the first film was so bad. Peter Sellers defined and owned this role and Steve Martin makes the mistake of trying to impersonate him.

Re: THE PINK PANTHER 2 (non-SPOILER discussion)
The Pink Panther 2...bad? Oh my, what a shock! [/sarcasm]
Anyways, this week many TV shows have had terrific appearances by Steve Martin (especially one side-splitting appearance on "The Colbert Report"), which were then ruined when it was revealed that he showed up to shamelessly promote this crap on a stick. The first one made me laugh once, and the rest was god-awful. Sellers was Clouseau, end of story. That was his role, no one else's. Why Steve Martin, someone who has the upmost respect for comedy, can't see that is inexplicable.

Re: THE PINK PANTHER 2 (non-SPOILER discussion)
At least we'll always have 'Pennies From Heaven'...
And alot of other classics from Steve Martin. I agree that he has flopped with his interpretation of Sellers, but I'm not sure I share the critical perception of these films tainting his track record. Every comedian has flops, usually more than one or two; lest we forget what Tom Hanks did before prominence, or what Bill Murray could do on his off-days. Comedians do not have spotless track records; Steve Martin is simply the same. Peter Sellers didn't always mark every film he was in positively - I considered him to fall into place with the rest of the mediocrity which is 'The Party'.

Re: THE PINK PANTHER 2 (non-SPOILER discussion)
I noticed on your upcoming reviews that Pink Panther 2 is up for February 12th. Are you going to re-watch it to see if it'll be better?

Re: THE PINK PANTHER 2 (non-SPOILER discussion)
Steve Martin seems a little more interested in the banjo than movies nowadays.

Re: THE PINK PANTHER 2 (non-SPOILER discussion)
Steve Martin's really gone down hill lately. "Roxanne" and "All Of Me" were funny, but his recent batch of movies have barely got a chuckle from me. I'm glad this one in question has fizzled at the box-office.

Can't agree with you more there, Steve Martin hasn't made a good comedy since "Bowfinger" and that was 1999! I saw the first Pink Panther (who told Beyoncé Knowles she can act?) and hated it with a passion. It's not often a movie peaks at it's opening credits. Looks like the sequel is following suit.

 Re: THE PINK PANTHER 2
The first Pink Panther was okay, but mainly because of its physical gags (so sue me, Martin getting his finger stuck in the door made me laugh), but from what I've read, this one is apparently quite painful to see.
I don't think Steve Martin has lost his funny. His guest spots on The Colbert Report and 30 Rock were both very funny, although you could also give credit to the talents of Stephen Colbert and Tina Fey for that being the reason.

 Re: THE PINK PANTHER 2
My daughter loved the first film and bought the DVD. I was then forced to watch - a painful experience.
I'd really like to know how Jean Reno managed to get involved in these films? Was he paid some insanely huge amount for appearing?

 Re: THE PINK PANTHER 2
I have seen both Pink Panther 1 and 2. They are both OK. Obviously not great, but also I don't think they are train wrecks. I'm sure I will see many worse movies this year. If you liked the PP1, you will probably like PP2.

 Re: THE PINK PANTHER 2
I have to say, I was laughing throughout Pink Panther 2, and found the first one to be hilarious as well. Beyonce isn't THAT bad (she's herself), and the song's a little catchy. The reveal of the villains was anticlimatic both times, but still amusing.
That being said, a PG-13 rating could have made them much funnier. By excising the kids attacking Clouseau and the farting, and adding in some of the more Steve Martin on SNL-type humor, it could have been much funnier.

 Re: THE PINK PANTHER 2
I laughed exactly once during the first Pink Panther (in the bit where some guy falls off his bicycle onto a coffee stand and for no reason the whole thing explodes).
I am sort of shocked that this sequel even exists.
