This series is simply the pulpit from which GRRM is attempting to preach the case against marriage!

Actor Iain Glen claims that the Season 5 scripts have already been written. Makes sense given the nature of the production (i.e. based on geography). That means that Season 6 will be scripted prior to Book 6's release as well. The show is going to have to choose between wheel-spinning, outpacing the books, or even telling its own story.

A want one of the non-wheel-spinning options.

Something interesting along those lines...

[Reveal] Spoiler:
Apparently, the TV series isn't going to just forget about Rickon. Although Martin has indicated he's going to return to the character in Book 6, his story thus far hasn't been advanced since he separated from Bran. If that's the case, then there may be material from Book 6 appearing in the TV series before the book shows up. Not clear whether Rickon will be in Season 4 or whether he won't show up again until Season 5. In either case, it seems likely that Season 5 will air before Book 6 is released. Random House doesn't have a date yet but the hope seems to be it will be published around the middle of next year.

Relevant new article from Vanity Fair.

It confirms that the showrunners have met up with GRR as recently as 2013 to discuss the story's end in order to meaningfully set things up, and it reiterates the intention for the show to last 7-8 seasons.

George Martin is now throwing a curve ball about adding theatrical movies to end or supplement the Game of Throne tv series. There is nothing that gets producer's attention more than new revenue stream with Imax and 3D thrown in for good measure. Maybe the finale movie will be broken into 2 or 3 movies over 3 years to really max out the fans forking over(erhh I mean tell the story the right way).

Honestly, I take everything Martin says with regard to the future of the show with a grain of salt. In an interview published last week, he suggested that a combination of books four and five could consitute three seasons alone, which directly contradicts the 7-8 season plan the showrunners have reiterated (in an article also published last week).

Somebody's way off, and I'm inclined to think it's not the people actually making the show. Martin is sharing his speculation/hopes.
