So you're reviewing "Ride Along" eh? That should be interesting, I think it looks hilarious but it seems like the type of film you would most likely hate.

James, what's your process for revision? I've only ever written one novel that I never touched again, and I mostly write shorter stuff. I know Stephen King recommends at least two drafts for novels, plus a touch-up draft.

Book #1 is currently on v.4.
Book #2 will be at v.4 when I go through the read-through.
Book #3 will be at v.2 but will inevitably go to at least a v.3 once my agent provides his input.

My process is that I write a rough draft of a chapter then go through an polish it up immediately, so there is effectively a revision built into the initial writing process. Once the book is done, I do another revision to clean up and change things I'm not happy with. Then I do another revision after receiving comments from a few select "early readers." Another revision will almost certainly be needed to incorporate notes from the publisher's editor.

After a while, you get sick of reading your own material.

Mobile version of the site not required. In fact, I hate it when I browse to a site on my phone and a mobile site appears.

Yeah, I use the site on my phone a lot of times, and the design is spared and easy to read enough to not need a mobile version.

I would make the removal of pop-ups and an app version the top priorities...if I was you of course.

Mr. Berardinelli,

Do you think you will continue with your previous Video Views projects (Best Pictures, Alfred Hitchcock, etc.)? At the very least, if your goal is to have one review per month, these projects would keep you occupied for a while. Thanks.

Hi James,

You had stated that you now have a newspaper gig in addition to your online reviews. I was wondering if you could tell us more about this arrangement, as it's the first I've heard of it.

I'm really pleased you hope to do more ReelThoughts James. You've slipped to one every month or less the last year it seems. They are my favourite thing about the ReelViews website. When you say 'none of this will happen if the book doesn't sell' I say you don't need to upgrade the site to be able to post one or two more ReelThoughts every month. I also think it would be great if you reviewed more old movies. Docu/Movies like 'Senna - The Man the Legend' is a pretty good show you know - cough cough.

I'm pretty curious about this too.

Hi James

I was wondering too if you ever going to finish the "Best Pictures" project? I would be pretty curious about "Deer Hunter" and "Rain Man" reviews.... :D

I'd love to know which newspaper you are reviewing for. It'd be cool to know.

The Burlington County (NJ) Times
The Bucks County (PA) Courier Times
The Intelligencer

All three are owned by the same group so the reviews are syndicated across them. The text of the reviews mostly matches that of the ReelViews review, although I edit the newspaper copies down to 600-700 words. Not every review that appears on the site shows up in print but every review in the papers is available through ReelViews. I retain the fully copyright because I'm working freelance rather than on salary.
