People need to realize that Jaden Smith is not going to happen. No matter how much Will wants it to, it just ain't gonna happen.

I think Jaden's an OK actor and I liked most of the movies on this list, though some(Book Thief, Diana) did look pretty bad.

I'm curious, what examples are there of a critic putting a certain movie on a Bottom 10 mainly as a "message" or a political statement?

There is a grievous implied insult when a movie clearly expects us to sympathize with loathsome characters who have no appealing characteristics whatsoever. That's the biggest issue with Identity Thief.

Well it wasn't an issue for me, I don't think the film entirely expected you to sympathize with
[Reveal] Spoiler:
Dawn, since she goes to jail at the end
Anyways I thought the film was well-acted and hilarious.

AVATAR. I remember a few "highbrow" critics putting that on their Bottom 10 lists. Now, I can understand the viewpoint that it's wholly unoriginal, but one of the worst films of the year? There were also critics who cited SCHINDLER'S LIST. Armond White, in particular, loves putting titles on his Top 10 and Bottom 10 lists just to get rises out of people.

Dude, he's 15 years old. Give him a break. Would he have gotten the same roles if he had a different father? Of course not. But writing him off at this point is just silly.

I would put Avatar on the top 10 most overrated films of the year, but I wouldn't call it one of the worst, the film isn't terrible or great, just aggressively mediocre.

I personally loved Insidious Chapter Two. Better than the first one IMO. The Conjuring wins the award for best horror film of 2013, but Insidious Chapter Two is a very close second.

Well guys, after all this time, I started reading some of White's reviews of movies I liked this year, and whoa. You're absolutely right. Can't wait to see his annual "Better Than" column this year, trying to make the case that GROWN UPS 2 and AFTER EARTH are better than his "dud" picks like FRUITVALE STATION, 12 YEARS A SLAVE, BLUE JASMINE, CAPTAIN PHILLIPS, BEFORE MIDNIGHT, and GRAVITY. Like I said in another forum, contrarian critics don't bother me like they used to. If anything, having them around is a good thing because it can teach you to be more confident in your own stance.

In regards to White:

I don't mind a critic holding a contrarian opinion. It can inspire interesting discussion when the critic can back it up. But White is contrarian just for the sake of being so, so he's useless.

I at least find his reviews interesting to read unlike those of Rex Reed, who just seems to hate everything and has absolutely no passion for his job as a critic.

That matches my opinion of them as people. I have met them both. White is actually rather humble if you talk to him. Reed is a narcissist.

It says in the introduction to the 2013 Top Ten list that there are no sequels on the list. Surely Before Midnight made it on there?

Sadly nothing could get past the stench of Movie 43. Quite frankly the worst film of 2013. The worst film quite possibly ever put to celluloid

Maybe you should try and watch Your Highness or Year One before making that claim, you'd be hard pressed to find worse films then those two.

I have heard from a couple of people, including one who is notoriously kind to trash, that this is easily the worst film of the last ten years.

I haven't seen it nor do I intend to see it unless some sadist who wins one of my contests chooses this for me to review.

Well if you do plan to ever watch it and have netflix instant viewing, it's available there. That's probably the only reason why I'm gonna check it out eventually. Well that and morbid curiosity. Besides, can a movie with that cast really be THAT bad? Yeah, I know most people would say yes, obviously. I'll soon see for myself.

I will say, Alonso Duralde actually gave it a positive review, surprisingly.

It's really not that bad, it does have some funny moments, though i'll admit it goes a bit overboard with the grossout humor at times
