That's a shame. Thus far, reviews have been generally good, some negative, but plenty of good ones. And personally, I think the movie looks great. I liked what I saw in the trailer.

I actually had the opportunity to watch it last month at the Philadelphia Film Festival, but I passed because I didn't feel like going out, especially since it was cold out. Oh, well. Looks like I'll have a much longer wait now unless there'll be any other advanced screenings for it.

BTW, it is part of my job to keep up with all releases(I get emails daily from virtually every publicist at every studio with dates, theater counts, etc. The release pattern for Labor Day was pretty different a week ago(a limited release type scenario ala Million Dollar Baby)
Trust me, this announcement is a sign that Paramount is disappointed with the film. And is likely not Oscar material. The qualifying runs are often a 'what the heck' type of last ditch effort, rarely do they pan out with major noms.

Are you a distribution man? :) I have a friend in that department. Personally I always find at least one movie to like in January. This year it might be Her.

January is generally a terrible month for films. This January features such fine fare as Paranormal Activity 5 and Ride Along, the usual minstrel show that gets a January release. Now I don't tell people what they should spend their money on, but I know that I've got better ways of spending my money.

I actually think Rid Along looks hilarious. But then I like Kevin Hart.

A few other January movies that look good to me: Jack Ryan, The Railway Man, The Truth About Emmanuel.

Nothing on the level of The Grey, but some solid looking movies.

Devil's Due, unoriginal as it may be, looks incredibly creepy as well.

PA5 actually dosen't come out til October, the PA film coming out in January is actually a spin-off of the series called The Marked Ones, though I agree that it does look horrible. Ride Along looks pretty hilarious though, I love pretty much anything with Ice Cube and I enjoy Kevin Hart as both a comedian and an actor, so it seems like a solid enough film. Jack Ryan also looks kickass and "I Frankenstein" looks like it could be a potentially interesting re-interpretation on the source material.

I want I, Frankenstein to be good, I like Eckhart and the girl from Chuck but the trailer reminds me too much of Van Helsing. Yikes!

Well you know misleading trailers can be.

Darren Aronofsky's Noah trailer.

Looks so... most un-Aronofsky. More like Emmerich.

Looks like another big, dumb historical epic.

I like the looks of the Noah trailer. Aronofsky's other works haven't appealed to me much (haven't seen Black Swan), but I like the looks of this one. I might have a hard time separating Russell Crowe from character.

I'm an Aronofsky fan, but I think I'm going to struggle mustering up any enthusiasm for this.

From the AV Club: "PG-13 movies now have more gun violence than R-rated movies, according to study of obvious things"

Apparently they are making a sequel to It's a Wonderful Life. And no. I'm not joking.

Second Need for Speed trailer:

Looks pretty badass to me. And it's cool to see Aaron Paul in something different than as Jesse Pinkman.

Apparently they're not and they can't because of rights issues or something:

"The rest of the story" haha.

All of the surviving members of Monty Python are to reunite for a stage show.

Now there's the definition of an unnecessary sequel if I ever saw one, glad it's not happening.

Also excited for Need For Speed.

It seems to me like they're still going forward with the sequel. There are a bunch of credible news outlets that are still reporting it.
