I have been hearing great things since spring, and it's getting awesome reviews now. What gives?

JB typically dosen't review many horror films so i'm not surprised he skipped this one, I can't say I was particularly impressed by the trailers for it, it looks better then the Conjuring, but not by much.

I'm also disappointed that JB is not reviewing this one. From the sounds of it, this story may have more going for it than the standard body count gore feast.

For a minute there I thought the OP was sarcastic but it's currently 80% "fresh" on RT.

OTOH it bombed, opening 7th and the lowest opening for a horror flick yet in 2013 and got a B- CinemaScore. So at the very least if James wasn't interested (and he hated The Purge so I bet he wasn't) this obviously wasn't an event film whose review would have enhanced web traffic. I think his decision was understandable.

I asked JB this question via email and here's what he said:

"I've seen it and wasn't impressed. It's a fairly mediocre home invasion movie with zero character development and a high body count. The "twists" are predictable. There's very little tension and most of the scares are of the "boo!" variety. If I was going to throw out a star-rating, it would be **1/2, but I don't feel an overwhelming need to review it."
