Post Need Netflix Instant Recommendations, and Fast
I'm binge-watching movies here folks. I've got 8 days until I leave on my European extravaganza and I need to cram as many movies as possible in before that happens. That's where you come in, my Reelviews friend.

Netflix by mail can't keep up with the raw power and blinding speed of my nuttage. But some of the movies on my Instant Queue have been there for 2 years. I need a new infusion of cinema.

Qualifications:

Very few. I'm open to anything, though preferably not something exceptionally gory or my wife might become a sad panda. I'm digging older movies right now so year of release isn't a prereq. Shorter is preferable but I'll take anything.

Help please!

John Dies In The End
Might be a little too gory though, I dunno, I've become desensitized to the point where I might not be best arbitrator here. As I said before, brilliant set up but anti-climactic.

Charade
Was criticized for being gory when it came out by today's standards, is really tame.

Have you seen Side By Side yet? Lovely little movie. Makes me want to give Keanu Reeves a hug.

If you haven't seen "Sherlock," it's now on Instant View.

Yes on Sherlock. It's really less of a normal tv series and more of a collection of 3 movies per year, and only the third "episode" of both seasons have cliffhangers.

Do you have an iPad? If so you need to jailbreak it and download an app from cydia called MovieBox. You can stream or choose to download any movie or tv show in HD. I always load up before any long trip. (Oh ya it's free).

Seen and liked Man on Wire, Battle Royale, Limitless, The Grey, and In the Loop. So great recommendations there clearly. The Desert Fox is an interesting one though. Thanks!

That amused me. But worry not: I have some principles left. Almost all of my movie watching is at home on a decent sized television

A decent sized television demands a decent sized movie.

The Trip

Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon play versions of themselves in what was designed as a TV show and then edited into a feature film by Michael Winterbottom. It's basically a road trip movie as the two go on a trip through northern England where they visit various fancy restaurants to critique. The brilliance of the film is the interaction between the two and the way their ways of life are contrasted. The movie is hilarious, deeply felt, subtle, and insightful.

It's really funny and really smart. An excellent modern comedy.

So it's more than just the Michael Caine scene?

Absolutely. The Michael Caine thing is a running joke throughout the film, and Brydon is almost constantly doing impressions (which some may find annoying), but the movie does a good job of exploring the psychology behind those constant impressions.
