Post Only God Forgives (2013)
Call me spoiled for talking about another movie I really want to see later this year while attending Sundance, but I can't wait to see Nicolas Winding Refn's latest film. Drive was second on my best-of-2011 list, after A Separation. Still, I cannot help but worry about Only God Forgives. The movie seems to occupy the same "universe" as Drive, based on the preview I saw at last year's Cannes Film Festival, but I feel that I will be let down simply because it isn't a sequel. Obviously, it's an entirely different movie, but going into it, I will probably end up expecting Drive - Part 2. Then again, I thoroughly enjoyed The Place Beyond the Pines, and I hope to have the same reaction to Only God Forgives.

Oh, and here is a link to the preview if anyone is interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... -nmf_-OnBE.

Looks pretty interesting, I liked Drive but wasn't blown away by it like most critics were.

Although I haven't seen Valhalla Rising, I really like what I've seen from Refn so far. Let us know how it goes.

Surprised to see Vithaya Pansringarm having his own billing. Even here he isn't that widely known. He received some acclaims in 2011 from an indie Thai film, but he may be best known from being president of the Kendo martial art club of Thailand.

reviewed in variety today

Quote:
The wallpaper emotes more than Ryan Gosling does in “Only God Forgives,” an exercise in supreme style and minimal substance from “Drive” director Nicolas Winding Refn. In retrospect, the controlled catatonia of Gosling’s previous perfs is nothing compared to the balled fist he plays here, a cipher easily upstaged by Kristin Scott Thomas’ lip-smacking turn as a vindictive she-wolf who travels to Bangkok seeking atonement for the death of her favorite son. As hyper-aggressive revenge fantasies go, it’s curious to see one so devoid of feeling, a veniality even “Drive” fans likely won’t be inclined to forgive.

40% on RT. A disappointment.

I thought you gave it a 1.5 star rating after further consideration.

No, but it premiered at Cannes today. Opens wider in July.

do you see everything at least 2-3 times? its like clockwork in the movie threads. You post "I will see this again tomorrow." or "I just saw this for the 3rd time this week." you even see movies you hated(Iron Man 3) at least twice!

that's really odd(no offense). hope you don't pay have to pay for all these viewings. how many times do you plan on seeing Hangover 3 or Fast 6?

Neither of those movies appear to be worth seeing more than once.
