Django has its virtues, but it's not the most tightly constructed piece of writing QT has done. It might be a "sorry we didn't give you anything for your previous movie, which was way better" kind of award.

And that's exactly what I meant by my comment. Inglourious Basterds was, I think, a much tighter construction than Django was (and probably much tighter than a few of his films), but i am glad that the Django was done...done the way it was done.

So, did Sivaraman or Kunz beat JB? I sure hope so.

Shade, With the exception of Director (which most would've got wrong), I got all the major and medium categories right for a grand total of 32 or 33 (depending on how Berard sees the Sound Editing tie). Not sure whether it'll be enough but if I win, I will request you fine forum members to tell me what film James should review cause I got none I want personally.

I was saddened to see Eiko Ishioka in the "In Memoriam" section. Her nomination for costume design for Mirror, Mirror was posthumous. She won on her first try, for Bram Stoker's Dracula in 1992. She also worked on The Cell, The Fall and Immortals. Tarsem Singh's films are going to be a lot poorer for her absence.

I got a grand score of 23. It's a lot harder than it seems, isn't it? ;-) Is there something I'm missing? What's the trick?

Her production design on Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters was crucial and superlative.

As I said earlier, 32 out of 38 which is looking good so far. The only major/medium category I got wrong was Best Director which a lot of people did. Of the tossups, I nailed everything except Production Design, Costume Design and Music. We'll see if someone did better than that.

Although I should thank JamesKunz though, I essentially copied his ballot and tweaked it a lot in the Major/Medium categories which is why we were neck and neck earlier in the race. Of course, I beat him later but still...

It always come right before or during midterm exams, so I caught afterwards on winners as usual. Gotta say, pretty diverse and widespread winners of big awards. Surprised but pleased with Life of Pi's Best Director. I love Argo so no complain there. And a tie?? Though both winners equally deserved them, I would lean towards Zero Dark Thirty more.

Because I am an obsessive compulsive bastard (and because I've got nothing better to do this Monday at work), I checked out the ballots at random to see who'd done better than me, and I found two people who beat me in the Minor categories to end up with 33 compared to my 32. That is ONE FUCKING POINT! :(

Fuck You Lincoln!

I haven't checked all the posts but a random check tells me that 33 is as high as it gets. I could be wrong though. There are some people on 33 though. There's you, Seanzyyap, and minnesotachris from my checks. Even if JB doesn't award 1 for ZDT, that still leaves you all one point ahead of me.

As I said, fuck you Lincoln. I had it on originally for Production Design but changed it at the last moment.

Well, I marked myself as getting sound editing wrong since I only guessed Zero Dark Thirty and not a tie with it and Skyfall.

If James actually counts getting one of them as correct, then I'll have 28 instead of 27. Doesn't matter though. I still lost.

I'm not agreeing with your assessment necessarily (especially on Hudson), but damn! Dame Shirley Bassey was incredible! Is she really 75? Well-deserved standing O for that performance.

Oh Jennifer Lawrence is a very gifted girl, if she does not lose her way in the wild Hollywood then she can win many more Oscars down the track and Anne Hathaway, this year, I loved her as Catwoman and she touched me deeply in LesMis. Keep it up Anne!
