Post A new "About You" thread that's not 4 years old
Since I just learned Ken was only a year older than me and I had been thinking, for reasons not clear to me other than perhaps his sexy mature older man vibe, that he was about 40, I think we need a new thread of introductions. With pictures if people aren't too embarrassed by their pimply, movie-nerd faces. So follow my template (or don't) and let's learn a bit about each other.

Actual name
: James Kunz (no way!)
Age: 26
State/Country: Maryland, USA
Job: Teacher (Social Studies)
Favorite Movie: Zulu for years, but now I've decided to give that "honorable mention" status and give the throne to Pan's Labyrinth
Skill I Would Give Myself in an RPG Leadership...if directing 12 year olds counts
Other Websites I'm Deep Into Sporcle, where I'm actually a fairly big wheel
General Information: I'm from New York, initially, and went to college at University of Michigan. I always really liked movies but fell deep into them in college when I discovered that with Netflix and the Campus library I could see essentially any movie I ever wanted to see, except the goddamn original version of 1984 which keeps eluding me. I really like traveling (writing this from a hotel room in Nebraska, where I recently notched my 42nd state and 29th state capitol) and plan to visit 100 countries before I die (currently at 28). I also like baseball a great deal and support the St. Louis Cardinals, which means it's been a pretty sweet decade. I got into this forum because I was a substitute teacher and there just wasn't much to do during the day when the kids were being good.
Picture Me in Turkey last year, which I chose largely because it shows verifiable evidence that I can, in fact, develop a tan. If only for a short time a

Actual Name : Carlos Reyes
Age: Old enough to be the father of any mod of this forum and Ken HaHa
Job: IT Application Analyst (Jira/Oracle Apex)
Hobby: Making short films and sometimes film reviews in YouTube
Favorite movie: Probably the film that I have seen the most times is Goldfinger (maybe you have guessed that HaHa) . Lately , I am more in 3D movies
General Information: I am originally from Venezuela and I am currently living in Australia since 1994 ( I hold double nationality: Australian and Venezuelan). I lived in USA for 2 years and half in the 80s doing a science master degree. I have visited many other countries such as Spain, France, Mexico, Argentina Canada and Colombia. I have been reading Reelviews for quite some time but it was last year when I subscribed to the forum to compete in the Oscar competition and am participating since then.

Post Re: A new "About You" thread that's not 4 years old
Hi, everybody!

(ReelViews: Hi, Ken!)

As I recently pointed out in another thread, I've discovered some cool cosmic coincidences between my life and the Evil Dead series. Evil Dead II began production on or around the day I was born. The director, Sam Raimi, went to the same university as me. The first Evil Dead movie premiered at the Redford Theatre (Bruce Campbell's childhood hangout), which happens to be the location of my personal coolest screening experience to date: my first time seeing 2001: A Space Odyssey, in 70mm, preceded by a half hour live concert of film music played on a historic pipe organ.

No, that was not the screening where the guy freaked out. That was at my second 2001 screening, at the Egyptian in Los Angeles. Memorable story, but not nearly as cool.

I don't really have a set occupation at the moment. I do document/graphic design, web authoring, a joe job, music, and amateur dog-walking of my own dog. Not a bad life, although it would be cool to add "recipient of a sizable inheritance from a dead long-lost relative" to the job description. It might sound callous... but suck it, long-lost relatives. If you don't want to die and give me your fortune, where you been at?

I wouldn't give myself any RPG skills, but I might give myself sonic boom and flash kick. As long as you have enough normal moves that propel you forward, sonic boom and flash kick are all you need to rush that shit down.

As for the important movies of my life, I'll start with Superman. I can't remember not loving this movie. I mean that literally. My family had it on VHS when I was too young to develop long-term memories. Growing up, I think there were two paths for kids in my age group: Star Wars or Adam Sandler. I was definitely a Star Wars kid. I can't speak for the Adam Sandler kids, but Star Wars got me through in one piece.

Toward the end of high school, I was drastically reconsidering my relationship with film--the way I watched it, the way I thought about it, what I sought out about it. Then I discovered Pulp Fiction around the time I hit college, which was pretty seismic... although in many ways, that journey has brought me full circle. Not only did it broaden my horizons, but it helped me to find more to appreciate about the movies that formed my tastes in the first place.

Since we're doing vacation (or pseudo-vacation) pics, here's me during my trip to NYC last year. The picture itself was taken in a New Jersey hotel room, because I'm not paying to stay in the city like some sucka. After this moment, I ate a quantity of pizza that ranges between inadvisable and foolhardy.

Check out the pizza place at the beginning of Spider-Man 2. That's where I went! Sort of. They moved a few doors down sometime after the movie was made.

Actual name: Not Shade.
Age: 29.
State/Country: KC MO.
Job: I do a few (very related) things: my "biggest" role is that I direct a non-profit camp that runs 9 weeks of summer camp and 45 weekend retreats throughout the year, all provided at no cost to our campers/guests. I train full-time and seasonal staff and oversee overall program and staff development. I absolutely love what I do. Otherwise, I coach high school basketball and am the pastor of a little-ish independent church in Kansas. I don't get paid for any of this and live, obviously, relatively sparingly. But I'm super blessed and have more than what I need, and most of all, as I said, I love what I do. It's not perfect, but I wake up excited and go to bed tired and that's a pretty solid combination, I think. I spend the vast majority of my time with high schoolers and love doing so. I have all the respect in the world for people like Mr. Kunz who do the nitty-gritty of being in the schools with kids every day.
Favorite Movie: Lilya 4-Ever or Magnolia. Probably.
Skill I Would Give Myself in an RPG: I played Skyrim once and was completely lost.
Other Websites I'm Deep Into: I used to semi-frequent the Joblo.com boards. They have gone completely off the rails but I still toil around there at times. I have played several of Kunz's Sporcle quizzes.
General Information: Like Kunz, I grew up in New York. I have lived in Virginia, Ohio, California, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Pennsylvania and Minnesota. I lived in my car for six months straight at one point. I've spent at least one night in every continental US state, which is sorta cool, but I'm very un-versed in places outside the US. My Dad was a cocaine dealer in the US in the mid-70s to early 80s and testified against the Medellin Cartel (chronicled in the film Blow).

Vacation Picture! Lincoln Park Zoo, Summer 2012. I lived near there for several years but took my Interns there this past summer. This is me with two of them (I'm in the middle).

Interesting stuff, guys.

Actual name: Christopher Parodi, though I do go by Pedro
Age: 22
State/Country: California, USA
Job: Theme Park Supervisor, Freelance Writer, part time filmmaker
Favorite Movie: Memento
Skill I Would Give Myself in an RPG: the ability to throw baseball-like objects in the general direction of enemies at 90mph... in other words, cut me from the team
Other Websites I'm Deep Into: I used to be an active member of a small Resident Evil forum, but that's about it. I've always liked the stuff on Rope of Silicon and In Contention enough to contribute comments frequently, but I never submitted anything.
General Information: I'm from the Bay Area, sandwiched between Google and Cisco. I graduated from San Francisco State University last May and have been dicking around ever since. That's not entirely true, but I spent all of summer working at Great America, all of November in Utah, and most of my time this year trying to figure out HOW (not what) to go about achieving life goals and such. I was the assistant director for a commercial recently, which was kind of cool. We had SAG actors! I'm working with my friend to create a website to corral my film criticisms, because putting them on a blogspot or similar doesn't scream credibility. I'm renting a cabin in the Santa Cruz redwoods in a few weeks to try and get some creative work done. I have a hard time concentrating... at home? Around here? I'm trying out that, too. At the moment, my life is a gigantic jumble of trying to figure things out, of which it's hard to escape that I should be past this by now. Oh well, at least baseball season is starting. I try to look at the positives.

Picture: I had to shave this beard for work, but this was it at its longest.

Actual name: Patrick
Age: 26...for one more month
State/Country: Indianapolis, IN
Job: Software developer for the USMC on the government side of employment, Host and Creator of the web-series That Other Song, former mod of these very forums(I asked to be un-modded!)
Favorite Movie: And ruin my top 100
Other Websites: You can find me on the Twitter at @pstergos. that's your best bet
General Information: I can say something like how Blip really loves That Other Song featuring it on Twitter, Facebook, the front page on its old layout and Staff Pick...but none of you people cared when it was on there. I can say something about how my day job is a lot like Dilbert and I love every second of it...plus the pay is great. I can talk about my crushing loneliness and utter self-loathing. Or my adventures at various cons like Horrorhound, Magfest or Anime Blues Con.

But I think I'll just leave this pic of me and Jamie Lee Curtis here.

Actual Name: Andrew Alan Ramseyer
Age: 24
State/Country: Arizona, USA
Job: I guess you can say I'm a full-time graduate student at the moment. I'm in my final semester at NAU for my English Masters with an emphasis in Professional Writing.
Favorite Movie: This is always a tough call for me. I'll never get tired of Raiders Of The Lost Ark, but catch me in a certain mood and I'll say High Fidelity, or Contact, or Stop Making Sense, or My Neighbor Totoro (the first film I ever remember seeing in theaters), or a handful of other equally worthy choices.
Skill I Would Give Myself In An RPG: the Summoning skill, to rain Hellfire and Judgment upon my enemies, if I had any.
Other Websites I'm Deep Into: This is the only forum where I'm a regular poster. I lurk around another called Sound Opinions, which I use primarily for new music recommendations.

General Information: I was born in Phoenix and I've lived here all my life, although recently I've started feeling ready for a major location change. I had a friend spend a couple years in China right out of college; that's something I want to experience, although I have no idea how to go about setting up that kind of thing. At some point I'd like to travel more to other countries. I play a little golf and I'll keep informed on most of what's going on in professional sports, but the only one I truly love is baseball (there needs to be a passionate baseball thread here in the same mold as the terrific basketball thread). When I'm not watching films, I'm listening to music. I own a guitar but haven't learned how to play yet, so for now I guess I'm just a collector and professional appreciator. I own somewhere around 1500 vinyl records, and I'm not sure at what point my collecting turned from a casual hobby to an obsession. I graduated from ASU with a degree in Film and Media Studies back in early 2011, but pretty much wasted the rest of the year failing to find meaningful work. I'm kind of kicking myself now for not pushing myself out to California, but maybe it's not too late. Anyway, I went back to school for graduate studies in the hope of making myself more desirable for the workplace, and I should finish everything up this summer. After that, well, we'll see.

I've always had an interest in film, and I would seek out the occasional obscure release or classic back in my early teens, but it wasn't until the start of college and my degree decision that I really began to get obsessed with film as an art form. The film classes in college were never really all that challenging for me, and other than a few memorable classes, I think I learned more from seeking out films on my own than from what my professors were relaying to me. Even now that it's been a couple years removed since college, I still hold out hope of finding some sort of film-related occupation. Maybe I'll be able to put together what I've learned from both undergrad and grad work and find something that will fit perfectly. But for now, I'm content just writing about films, and it's my goal this year to write some thoughts on every first-time viewing.

I've posted this picture on here before. It's a few years old now, but I still use it on social media and I haven't changed in appearance all that much:

I don't have any photos on my computer right now, I'll try to post one soon.

Actual Name: Braydn
Age: 19
Country: Canada
Job: 3 weeks ago I started working a landscaping job that I've been enjoying a lot.
Favorite Movie: The Departed has been my favorite movie for the past few years.
Other websites I'm deep into: From 2007-2009 I was apart of a gaming clan called the Angry Old Farts (AOF). I frequented that forumn because I played Day of Defeat: Source quite a bit. I was with them until I started to play it competitively and had to leave the clan to pursue a clan more involved in the competitive gaming scene.
General Information: I was born and raised in British Columbia, Canada. I still live there. I took a film studies course in high school, and that's when I really started to appreciate films. I'm only 19 now, that was only a couple of years ago, so I haven't seen nearly enough movies. I do know the feeling I had after watching the Departed and I've desperately been searching for movies that impact me the same way. I read through all the new forumn entries everyday and I usually don't respond because what do I have to offer, right? I do watch a lot of movies based on the recommendations I get here, which I appreciate. I really enjoy buying DVD/BluRay's and I hope to build a fairly large collection over the years, it's my favorite hobby currently.

Name: Lee
Age: 31 tomorrow (19th of Feb)
Occupation: Project Leader, Education
RPG Skill: The subtle, yet relentless, undermining of authority. I'm the fist guy ever to complete a Zelda game and bring down the kingdom of Hyrule through a vicious campaign of leaflets and snarky, sarcastic articles about its ruling dynasty.

Other info: Married for nearly 5 years. Together for 10. Have a Diva Daughter aged 3-and-a-half who likes Pixar films (predictable), and who is growing to like/love The Simpsons, which I think is awesome.

Always been a film geek. First watched The Blues Brothers and Kes at a very young age. Grew up watching Moore's Bond films in the 80s along with Indiana Jones. Started doing (not literally) Scorsese in the 90s. Watched Goodfellas aged 12, Casino aged 14, Taxi Driver at 15, got Mean Streets on my 16th Birthday. Visted Coppola when I Watched all the Godfather films in one (long) 1999 day. I remember first watching Pulp Fiction back in 1997, aged 15... it blew me away. So did Saving Private Ryan at the cinema a year later.

My favourite Directors are the usual crowd - earlier Tarantino; Scorsese; non-hokey Spielberg; and laterly I've enjoyed Mendes, Edgar Wright and others.

My film watching went slightly dormant for a few years as I expended all my efforts on going out and drinking. Only got back into it properly in the last 3-4 years. I've always liked the Coen Brothers but now feel at a slightly older age that I can appreciate their work more.

I firmly believe that I have 3 utterly brilliant, world-class screenplays in me, but I won't share them in case one of you fuckers steals my ideas, making £$Millions.. and thus forcing me to hunt you down in a fashion only comparable to Anton in No Country for Old Men.

Anyway -

This is great! I've learned that Awkward Beard Man really has a beard, Not Hugh Grant looks really British, Gedmund had crippling insecurities (seriously, dude, I guarantee you have as much to offer as the rest of us), Blonde Almond may not be blonde, Patrick hates us all, Shade has spent a night in North Dakota (and has a very strong, manly chin), Ken treats Sam Raimi like others treat a horoscope, and we have a forum member named Carlos!

Below is an edited version of a thorough introduction I typed for another forum. (Please bear with me on the length.)

Actual name: Balaji Sivaraman (no shit!)
Age: 25 (On March 1st)
State/Country: Chennai, India
Job: Software Engineer
Skill I Would Give Myself in an RPG: Self-Confidence. Most would say I am over-confident!
Other Websites I'm Deep Into: Never Die '58 (Manchester United forum of which I am the owner)
General Information:
I was born and mostly brought up in Chennai. Apart from spending some of my initial years till third grade moving from place to place (We even spent a year in Bombay.), I would firmly call myself a Chennaiite. I identify myself with this city and it is the only place in the world I would call home. Ever since fourth grade, I've been living in the same home I am currently in. My dad used to be a banker (hence, being constantly on the move in the early days) before giving that up to settle in Chennai and spend some years in the private sector. Since I got myself hired some three years back, he's being happily enjoying retried life and keeps himself occupied with sports, books and politics. My mom used to be a homemaker but has since gotten herself a pretty awesome job in market research. She mostly does freelance stuff as moderator to fill in the time.

I frickin love my line of work, though not necessarily my job right now. Ever since I got my first computer, this is something that I've wanted to do. I've been programming ever since I was 10-12, and although I am no expert in any language so far (working on that), it is the only thing that comes naturally to me. I can't see myself in any other line of work till the day I die. As a result, I've started working on a really cool website idea along with one of my colleagues (who also happens to be one of my closest friends IRL). Besides programming, I also love writing. I find it an exhilarating process to write about something I deeply care about. When I was in 12th grade, I even dabbled with the idea of forgoing engineering to get a Journalism degree but quickly dropped it because the money simply wasn't as good in that. In hindsight, it seems like a good idea. But I never gave up writing. I've tried to better myself as a writer and constantly read other blogs, news websites to improve my vocabulary. That is also the main reason why I have my own blog - BalajiThots. I mostly post film reviews there because that is the only sort of writing that comes easily to me, but I've tried to widen my niche by posting about technology and other random topics in my head.

As for sports, I love them all, even golf, snooker and pool. I am a die-hard Manchester United fan; more to the point, I am a crazy fanatic, one of those guys you see screaming whenever they score important goals. I love Cricket though I've completely lost my passion for Indian cricket thanks to all the politics involved. I also keep up with Tennis from time-to-time, mostly the Slams. There's only one player who's ever captured my fancy and that's Roger Federer. The day he retires, I won't know what to do with Tennis anymore. I used to play basketball in my school days and it is the only sport I identify for myself. I watch the NBA from time-to-time and am a huge Los Angeles Lakers and Kobe Bryant (Lebron who?!?) fan.

I don't know when it is exactly that I discovered this passion for movies but it was in the latter part of the last decade. It started gradually with a few films over the weekend here and there but has turned into a full-blown obsession. Hence my presence on these forums. Very recently, I've also started reading a lot about film analysis. This is because my knowledge of films has been limited to watching and I want to better understand the nuances of filmmaking. That is why I've been reading a lot of film-related books recently. My favorite film of all time is the Tamil movie Nayagan and favorite English film of all time is Schindler's List.

I also love music and it is the only form of art that takes me places where nothing else can. Locally, I love Ilaiyaraaja (who you might not have heard of) and A.R. Rahman (who all of you would've heard of :P). Till about 2006, my knowledge was zero when it comes to Western music. But one of my friends on another forum introduced me to some great Indie Rock bands and I've been hooked ever since. I am constantly trying to expand my listening horizons and with the advent of the Itunes Store in India, it has given me easy access to all the American bands I could possibly want. The first band that got me hooked onto rock music was U2, and they're my favorite band of all time. I am also a big fan of Arcade Fire and was elated when they won the Grammy for Suburbs in 2011. Other favorites include Radiohead, Coldplay, Muse, Murder by Death, Modest Mouse and a few others. As for the legends, I fucking love Led Zeppelin and have been trying to get into The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Bob Dylan. You can find em on Last FM here.

I also spend some time playing games but that has been greatly reduced recently due to time commitments. The only developer who's been able to hold my attention enough is Bioware. They're my favorite developer of all time and I fucking love Mass Effect and Dragon Age. The next game that will devour my time will be Dragon Age 3. But I do dabble with other games from time to time (recently Far Cry 3 and X-Com: Enemy Unknown). Some of my favorite games of all time include The Half Life series, The Mass Effect series, The KOTOR Series, Planescape: Torment, Warcraft III, Max Payne, Mafia, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and a few others. I play games only on the PC and have a kick-ass PC that would put Alienware to shame. PC-Building is another hobby of mine and I've assembled PCs for all my friends. I love PC technology and odds are my PC will always be stocked with them. (I am currently running an SSD with 12 GB of RAM and what was the second fastest graphics card when it arrived - Nvidia GTX 570).

I also do a lot of reading though I am ashamed to admit that I am not as voracious as some of you guys. The book thread here has reignited my passion for reading but I still don't read as much as I should. :(

Picture:This is a photo of me taken on a vacation to Goa last month.

Gedmud, I thought like that when I first visited these forums, but when I started posting, I found that all of them were very welcoming and appreciated my inputs though I have very little actual film knowledge compared to some of them. James, Ed (Metal Head), Ken, PeachyPete and a few others were incredibly friendly to me and that has made me stick with this forum ever since. It really is a great place to discuss and read about films if you ignore the handful of trolls.
