Post New Film Club??
Would any of you guys be interested in starting up a new film club? I'm not sure the logistics of it, but I'm pretty sure there's been a few before, and the idea seems like a good bit of fun.

In the past, there's always been a disconnect between the number of people who say they're interested in an idea like this and the number of people who actually end up participating when the date finally rolls around. The discussions have typically been quite good though, albeit limited by the small amount of people who join in.

With that said, I'm definitely on-board with giving something like this another try. Hopefully some others express some interest as well and we can brainstorm some potential selections.

If we're going to watch anything, it should be something short, in English, and perhaps from the past year. What was that one movie you-all wanted to see but never really got around to watching? I can promise that whatever we choose, I'll watch it. If it's in consideration for a Pedro or an Oscar, I'm there.

I'm in. I think there's enough new blood around here to give this another shot.

My suggestion is that we don't set any rules just yet and see how it goes. I'm sure agreeing on a film to watch won't be too hard, and we can gauge how to proceed, or if we're going to proceed, based on the participation. As Blondie said, many of the people who express interest in threads like these are absent when the thread for the movie's discussion pops up.

I agree with everyones thoughts. The first film should be something short, and chosen by a consensus of sorts. I guess now we should just wait around a bit and see who else wants to participate. If you all want to post films for consideration that would be great!

Ahhhhh I remember when I was young to the forum and full of beans and started the Reelviews Movie Club. We watched, among others, Shock Corridor/Waking Life/The Devil's Backbone/Thief. Good times were had by all, but you're going to get frustrated by the lack of participation

Awesome James!. Still hoping on a few more members, so if you come across this and are interested AND committed to the cause (no Master pun intended) please post a reply and let us know your in.

I was thinking of some films that are fairly short. I don't really know what you all have seen or not seen so I will just list a few off and everyone is welcome to chime in and post your own suggestions

Suggestions are (all of which are not very long):
Compliance(2012)
The Deep Blue Sea (2011)
The Imposter (2012)
The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012)

So how's this work? We all watch a chosen movie on a designated date and spend the next few days/weeks discussing it?

What types of movies are we looking at watching? Those a little left of mainstream, but not too challenging?

I haven't participated in one of these before, anyone care to give me the skinny on how it works? Cheers

Beard Man, I'm new to this as well. So if anyone else wants to chime on on the workings of it that would be fine as well. However, I assume we all all come to an agreement on a film to watch. After the film has been decided upon, we will come up with a date to have watched the film by; making sure that everyone has enough time to have obtained the film and watched it. After the date has passed, I then assume everyone apart of the "club" will discuss the film on a new thread labeled "Film Club Discussion: (Insert Film Title)."

Well here's some films from the previous year or so that I haven't seen, but have always been meaning to:

Sound of My Voice (2011)
The Hunter (2011)
Rampart (2011)
Coriolanus (2011)
Take This Waltz (2011)

Also, although we've decided to limit it to English, here's some foreign films that I've had some interest in seeing:

Bullhead (2011)
Holy Motors (2012)
Certified Copy (2010)

And also, another movie that I think is ripe for discussion, and worthy of another rewatch is Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011).

Compliance seems like a good choice, if only because I've been meaning to see it. Holy Motors is also a good choice, which would probably provide a lot more discussion than Compliance if I had a guess. The Deep Blue Sea has a lot going on and it's atmospheric to boot, so I can rally behind that one, too.

Compliance sounds great to me, but I'm ok with anything really. Hopefully others will put input their thoughts as well

I'd be good with The Perks of Being a Wallflower, seeing as I just watched it. If you want decent participation it'd probably work out better to pick something on DVD as it will be more easily accessible to more viewers. Martha Marcy May Marlene would make an intriguing discussion, and I haven't seen it either. We could also retry the aborted Mission to Mars discussion I gave up on (boy can dream right?).

Alright guys, I guess I'll go ahead and put in my vote for Compliance. It's out on DVD, and is available through Netflix and also available for rent through Itunes. I casted my vote, now you guys cast yours!

I know I haven't posted much, at all, lately...for a while, but I read just about everything. I seem to find just enough time to skim your guys' writings, but I battle too much in writing. I love these film clubs. I would try to get involved in the past and I will try to get involved here. That should motivate me to watch some damn film...

My vote would be for The Deep Blue Sea, but I'd be up for Compliance and Martha Marcy May Marlene as well. I've seen the latter one, but not since it was originally released.

I imagine Holy Motors would make a great choice once it becomes more readily available. Maybe down the road.
