Throw in time-traveling Bruce Willis and I'm in.

I don't get the Smurfs point at all, aside from the fact that they're blue.

It's for lack of a better criticism.

Dances With Wolves meets Ferngully would be a more apt description.

To hear people tell it, Avatar is everything meets everything.

The only true statement to describe Avatar is Fern Gully, the good version.

Ex-fucking-zactly. If you can't decide if Avatar is a ripoff of Dances with Wolves OR Ferngully OR Pocohantas OR The Last Samurai then the movie isn't a fucking rip-off, it's following in a tradition.

It's not a ripoff, its following in a tradition... and most closely resembles Dances-cum-Ferngully while doing so. I still find it holds joys aplenty, just not up to the level of Aliens, or The Abyss, or Titanic, or Terminator 2. It played best in the theater, its rewatchability factor is diminished on the small screen (a flaw I'm hoping Cameron will fix in the upcoming sequel(s)).

Hovering between The Abyss and True Lies... I decide with The Abyss, but they're equal in my eyes, really. Even so, my score for the film would still be 8/10; at his worst Cameron still entertained me greatly.

Ranking:

Aliens 9.5
Titanic 9
Terminator II 9
Terminator 8.5
Avatar 8.5
True Lies 8
The Abyss 8
