 Re: ADVENTURELAND
I am very surprised at the high rating, very surprised. Not in a bad way mind you but I never would've guess you would like it that much.

 Re: ADVENTURELAND
I'm so excited!
I thought the trailers were weak - but now I'm guessing that it's more because the film is hard to market, rather than that it sucks.
This movie is of particular interest to me in that it mirrors my life. I too graduated from Oberlin College then got a minimum wage job. It's me! However, this did not happen to me in the 80's. ...and I am not directed by Greg Mottola. ...barring some sort of Truman Show thing that I don't know about.

 Re: ADVENTURELAND
I've been looking forward to this movie for a while. "Superbad" is one of my all-time favorite comedies, and Greg Mottola seems like a promising young director. Doesn't hurt that I have a great attraction to Kristen Stewart either .

 Re: ADVENTURELAND
Sounds like this might be worth checking out. I wonder if this would be a good date movie.

I've seen it too! James and I gave it the same rating! http://www.filmgazing.comi totally agree with the honesty of this film. its really refreshing, and i think it rides on Eisenberg's performance.

 Re: ADVENTURELAND
just love this line, "She has too much talent to waste in hollow adaptations of shallow books." hollow adaptations of shallow books. just love it. very very happy that its good. its one of those films you just want to see succeed. will definitely watch. cant argue with you there. we're resonating.

 Re: ADVENTURELAND
I want to see this movie, but I'm kind of not looking forward to it either.
I myself am an aspiring screenwriter. I worked at Canada's Wonderland for a few summers working games (the movie makes working games look like a horrible job when in actuality, it's the most fun job I've had), and after a recent visit thought, "Hey, why don't I write a script about one day in an amusement park?" I wrote a 100 page script about one day in an amusement park, with an ensemble approach, looking at the perspectives of games employees, and people who go to the amusement park for fun.
You can obviously imagine my reaction when I found out about this movie's existence. Had I known about this movie earlier, I probably wouldn't have bothered to write that script.
But, I'm just being really bitter. I do expect great things from this movie and I am excited for it, especially after reading this review.

I think Adventureland is more a "Summer in the life" rather than your "Day in the life" scenario so it may be different enough for you.

 Re: ADVENTURELAND
Phew. These two appear in every single modern comedy and, for their time on screen, the movie usually stalls, sputters, and sinks into mid-90's Sandler territory. Wiig was left out of the theatrical Forgetting Sarah Marshall thereby proving, possibly to me alone, that the spastic nonsense is starting to wear thin.

I saw it a few days ago, and James is dead-on - it's a delightful, surprising film.

 Re: ADVENTURELAND
Ain't that the truth. I group Hader with Rainn Wilson -- people who know that they are funny looking, and so they just make funny faces instead of delivering their lines believably. Also, the squeaky-voice guy in I Love You, Man.

Hader's awesome in this. Look for a scene involving a baseball bat.

 Re: ADVENTURELAND
Oooooooooooo, nuts.
It's bad luck that my current writing project is partially inspired by my experiences working for the bigger of the games and ride establishments in Ocean City, MD. and features a character named Em'. Fortunately, that's where the similarities end. I'm using the resort in a way that's much more reminiscent of Sam Shephard's "Fool For Love" than this film.
Having said all that, I can not wait to see this. I agree that the trailer is awful. It looked like WAITING...IN AN AMUSEMENT PARK. It's a bad sign when your trailer gets fewer laughs from a crowded auditorium than the one for FIRED UP.
Fortunately, it had me with "From the director of SUPERBAD." Given the dreariness of PINEAPPLE EXPRESS, I've been starting to wonder if the success of SUPERBAD had more to do with the execution than the script.

 Re: ADVENTURELAND
It's impossible to develop a trailer for because there aren't many stand-alone jokes or one-liners. The movie depends on character identification, which is impossible to convey in a two-minute montage of "best scene" clips. This would have been a perfect time to try something different with the trailer - perhaps pick a two-minute scene from the movie and use it, without cuts (or with minimal cuts) to get people intrigued. The existing trailer is doing exactly what a trailer should NOT do - killing interest in and excitement about the movie. The review is up early in a vague hope that people will give this movie a chance, because it's so much better than most of the garbage that's out there right now.
