Actually my list is subjective beyond numbers one and two. I honestly don't believe I've seen nearly enough films (especially classics) to truly make this list.

This list comes with a twist:
I am brutaly honest here (to myself) and don't name any movies which I think I should include. I just name movies which had an enormous impact on me - seen first time in a movie theater of course (BTW: farewell 35mm and 70mm - it was wonderful but now it's over). Many because they came at the right time...

Again: this is NOT a list of movies I rank as the best at the time being (which would be different, but not that much different)- this is a list of movies which blew me away when I first saw them in the theatre. I might have missed many greater movies which I later saw on DVD/BluRay or on tv. This has only to do with the time frame I lived in and my taste (which hasn't changed that much through the years):

In no particular order:

Jaws
Koyaanisqatsi
The Deer Hunter
Taxi Driver
Raiders of the Lost Arc
2001, a Space Oddyssey
Alien
Aliens
The Empire Strikes Back
Once Upon a Time in the West

Such a hard question. I guess I could compile a list that is by no means "concrete"

1. Once Upon A Time In America
2. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
3. The Conversation
4. Barry Lyndon
5. Pans Labyrinth
6. Lives of Others
7. Notorious
8. Chinatown
9. City of God
10. High and Low

Nice to see some love for Once Upon a Time in America. I think it gets judged harshly because of The Godfather(s) and Goodfellas. Also too, most people tend to appreciate one of Leone's other films. It really is a classic gangster epic.

What's your take on the ending Jack?

[Reveal] Spoiler:
The first few viewings I couldn't really understand why it would be left so ambiguous what happened to Max and why Deborah didn't age? Noodles had to be having an opium induced dream of the future, do you think?

The list changes from time to time, but these are the ones I usually go back to...

The Shawshank Redemption
Seven
LA Confidential
Die Hard
Aliens
2001: A Space Odyssey
Syriana
The Godfather 1-2
The Silence of the Lambs

...more or less, in no order.

That is a list I could seriously get behind. Guess I need to see Barry Lyndon.

Lot of man movies there, that's for sure. Interesting seeing Syriana crack a Top 10

Well, I'm a man! No, seriously, not a conscious decision, but if you ask me now, I could probably come up with 10 more that could also be my Top 10 easily.

Unforgiven
Casablanca
LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring
Kill Bill
Vertigo
Memento
When Harry Met Sally
Schindler's List
Chinatown
The Terminator

A couple notes. I'm 25 years old. Most of the movies I've seen were made in my lifetime.

10. The Contender
9. Serenity
8. 12 Angry Men
7. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
6. Almost Famous
5. Children of Men
4. Master and Commander
3. The Godfather
2. Shawshank Redemption
1. Rocky

Let's update this bad boy.

10. Wrath of Khan (It's funny--four years ago I probably considered it my third- or fourth-favorite Star Trek movie. I like it a little better every single time I watch it. Now it's my second-favorite Star Trek... behind Master and Commander.)
9. Anatomy of a Murder
8. Apollo 13
7. Shawshank Redemption
6. Almost Famous
5. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
4. Master and Commander
3. The Godfather
2. Rocky
1. Children of Men

This is the first time I've ever admitted it--Rocky has been dethroned. I think. Ask me again in an hour.

I don't think I've examined mine in a while either. That'll make for a good mid-holidays project.

I will guess that it was behind The Voyage Home, First Contact, and the new one. Am I close?

I watched this with my (ex-)girlfriend for a project she had to do for one of her classes last year. I'd heard of it, but I didn't know much about it. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

Yep. Exactly right. Though, maybe not the new one (considering my Master and Commander joke). First Contact has not aged as well as II or IV for me, sadly. I think the new one will hold up, except for him jumping straight from cadet to Captain (an O-6 in today's Navy) of the flagship.

It's one of the rare courtroom dramas that gets better after you go to law school. And it's already a great movie.
