Post Long time Forum members with no info
What has happened? Quite a lot (but not all) of Forum members suddenly just appear by their names with no further information such as "number of posts", "joined - date" or "location" or any avatar pic. Some (like Vexer and Ken, the latter now in two versions ?!?!) seem to have started over as "Gaffers" with new Avatars, just yesterday (October 7th). Any tech issue or something I missed? Any reply highly appreciated.

We got deleted!

Fortunately, it was just an accident. Our fearless leader made sure that the forum members in question were fast-tracked through the signup process so that we were all back in no time.

Unfortunately, my towering post count has been reduced to nothing. It's going to take a long time to build it back up to its former glory.

It was frustrating when 'majoraphasia' got the deletion ~ one year back -- all those posts, no longer searchable. I often searched based on author to check their thoughts on certain films and will miss that; Google's site-specific search isn't quite the same. I always assumed there was a registry back-up somewhere, on some server. I don't know how these things work, clearly.

I do know that JamesKunz managed to survive the e-pocalypse along with me.

That's right. You read that right.

You can't keep the Jews down.

I hope the deletees aren't discouraged and will come back.

Testing one two did you get the check. Check one two testing. Can you hear the sound back there?

Okay, cool thankyou, I can hear you clearly. Go and get a signature now please Leigh. Maybe even a picture. Wouldn't that be nice.

Same here, and I agree. I use the "View your posts" (a.k.a. "egosearch") link all the time to keep track of responses to my posts or to track down what I wrote about a film from years ago, and it comes up with nothing now. :(

The strange thing is that all the old posts are still there; you just can't search for them by username. I suppose it could have been a lot worse.

My reign as post-master general (see what I did there) shall be benevolent, fear not.

Hello, I am TPFKAU, the poster formerly known as Unke. I have been deregistered, deleted and was buried, descended into hell and, in no time at all thanks to our service-minded host, rose again from the deleted.

Turd-master general is more like it. Amirite? Amirite?

Take my wife. Please.

Ahhhh I love you guys. The posts-reset though does lead to democratization of the forum. In the American democracy sense though, in which the few (i.e. me) are incredibly wealthy and the rest of you have equality. Yay!

5000+ posts all gone. Like tears in the rain. Time to die. Wait, forget that last part. I aim to school you sumbitches for quite some time yet.

Seems to me the problem of linking old posts to the proper user accounts could be fixed with a little SQL, but I guess James doesn't want to muck around in the phpBB MySQL database and probably not for ~100 users. (If he did it for one person, he'd have to do it for everyone, and that would be a lot of work.)

Sadly, no. I was never as awesome as Mr. 1312 and joined on the opening date. I recall it was Valentine's Day. I had nothing better to do...
