Re: PI Lawless - *** The director is John Hillcoat and the cast includes Guy Pearce and Tom Hardy in what promises to be a gritty Prohibition-era gangster flick/Western. It also has Shia LeBeouf but I have the feeling that the oft-derided young actor might be able to rise to the occasion now that he's appearing in a film of some substance and is freed from the shackles of mugging for the camera against a bunch of scrap metal and explosions.
Bachelorette - **1/2 Looks like a slightly more highbrow version of Bridesmaids. The Cold Light of Day - ** A generic-looking PG-13 action/thriller that probably won't rise above its stock elements. The Words - **1/2 Could be an intriguing expose of the steep price that often must be paid for plagiarism... then again, maybe (and more likely) not. Premium Rush - *** A PG-13 action/thriller that looks like it could rise above its stock elements and has the tremendous benefit of Joseph Gordon Levitt in the lead. Especially the whole story within a story (and even another layer of story as well) aspect to it. I can't wait to see it myself. It's one of the movies I'm looking forward to most this fall movie season. |
