Post Third trailer for "The Dark Knight Rises"
This trailer will play before "The Avengers".

Well judging from this trailer, as well as the previous ones, if all goes well here we could have the best third film Hollywood has released since LOTR: Return of the King.

I like that after 3 trailers I still don't know the actual plot of this movie, they are keeping us aware that it's coming but not much else. Prometheus marketing could learn something, they are starting to reveal way too much for that one.

I have to admit i'm pretty excited to see this too, I wouldn't go so far as to say it looks like the best of the year though.

Haha, I have to tell you that I first read this as "the third best film since LOTR" and I was like "whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa???"

But yeah, although I wasn't much of a fan of the previous ones, I have decently high hopes for this one.

This trailer ruined it for me.

Batman now has a bat-jet and catwoman is some chick in a mask.
Just add in Robin and finish it off.

The Bat-Wing is no less of a stretch than the Batmobile jumping across rooftops in the first movie. While they seem to be going for a realistic approach the filmmakers still understand we are watching a story about a man who fights crime in a Batsuit but all the designs are grounded in some form of reality and believability.

As for Catwoman again I don't see the issue, we have had 2 movies in which the villains wear clown makeup and the other wears a potato sack on his head while doing underground deals.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't pumped up for this. It is, without a doubt, my most expected film of the year. I will say what I said on another forum: "I will lap up anything Nolan does blindly." I know that may not exactly be the most popular opinion on here but I absolutely mean it. He's one of the most exciting filmmakers around for me.

Nolan is awesome. There are just certain people on here that are in "film school," or have taken classes in "film" or "film techniques" that constantly say how bad Nolan's movies are. They are just being pathetic in that they will never accomplish what he has done. I think deep down those people actually like Nolan, they just say they don't because it is the "hip" thing to disagree if most others like him.

That's a bit harsh dude, and MGames' attitude doesn't change the validity of his stances.

I don't like Nolan. I like Memento quite a bit, have seen the rest once and don't have any plans to ever revisit them. I feel like all of his films (most criminally Inception) have no real ending, and not in a good sense. And there are legitimate flaws in Nolan's techniques at times. There's certainly nothing wrong if that doesn't bother you or you disagree, but to dismiss all critics of Nolan in one swoop isn't really fair.

Admittedly, I'm just not attracted to the types of films that Nolan makes. I think he has real passion and ideas, but he seems to find himself an auteur when he's clearly not (and for the record, I do think some filmmakers are). As I said, I look forward to seeing this new one on the big screen, and I hope he fixes the problems with his last few blockbusters. I'm sure it'll look good, I just hope it has real ideas and goals beyond popcorn.

People??

Those same "people" say that you don't really like Nolan (because nobody with intelligence or taste CAN like Nolan), you just think you do because to don't know enough about film.

Where is that "people"? He has been very quiet lately.

Relax dude, McGamesCook hasn't said anything about Nolan for awhile, so there's really no point in insulting him now. I've stayed out of those heated arguments because I just don't care all that much, I think Nolan is talented but overrated, and his Batman films are a much better example of his talent then Inception was.

BTW Inception, apparently took most of it's "original" ideas from a comic book: http://www.cracked.com/article_19021_5-amazing-things-invented-by-donald-duck-seriously.html I know Nolan started writing it in 1998, but we have no idea if his original draft was anything like the one that ended up in theaters, so for all we know, he incorporated the ideas in the comic into a later draft of the script, considering that M Night Shyamalan admitted he copied the ending of Sixth Sense from an episode of the TV show Are You Afraid of The Dark? it's not at all farfetched.

I mostly agree with you on Nolan, I like his Batman films, but i'm not going to pretend they don't have a few significant flaws. I liked the concept of Memento more then the actual film itself, Insomnia was average and felt like it could've directed by anybody, and The Prestige just didn't work for me at all.

So do you have an actual counterargument to those people, or are you just in the business of insulting anyone who disagrees with you?

Not getting directly into the light argument over Nolan. Just some random layman psychoanalysis: there are many artists (no matter if musicians, actors, directors, painters, authors, architects, screenwriters....) which seem, in our opinion, to be wrongly worshipped by most people. Others which seem to be wrongly regarded (widely) as hacks. I can only speak for myself: in a some cases my opinion was the opposite of the widely accepted opinion (let's call it that way). Since I love to think about myself as being clever and original, I come up with a huge array of explanations regarding why so many people have the "wrong" opinion. Sure: reality isn't black and white but it will turn black and white for each of these celebrity artists because we fiercely defend our opinion thinking we know better than most.

Here comes daddy talking: with age I mellowed down and actually listened to other peoples' points. I can still like certain people who are heavily criticized by many, but I see and accept the flaws which are pointed out. This is not about "getting soft" and not about mellowing down per se. It's about getting over ourselves, trying to see the big picture. Not all people are criticized out of envy. Not all people have huge sucess because they worked so hard (ask any honest successful person who issn't full of him/herself: they will point out how many poeple they know who worked even harder and might actually be more talented - they plain and simply didn't make it). Anyone who thinks I am talking out of frustration: just look up "survivorship bias".

I rest my case.

Christopher Nolan is awesome. Even his lesser movies (Following, The Prestige though I do need to give that one a re-watch) are still very good.

That trailer for The Dark Knight Rises gave me chills. The movie looks incredible. It WILL be the movie of the summer. I would say it will be the movie of the year but it has tough competition with The Hobbit on that one.

Oops. I was originally going to type stuff on how I think some people are wrongly considered hacks like Michael Bay so that' probably why I accidentally posted his name than Nolan's.

Until this morning I was cautiously optimistic but a little worried. The football scene felt weird and silly, I wasn't sure I bought Bane as the terrifying force he should be, etc. Now... holy crap. I'm ready now. Unfortunately, I can't help it--my expectations are sky-high now.

Great trailer. Probably the best I've seen since Terminator: Salvation.

One thing which I immediately give to Nolan: when his movies look good they really look good. Memento looks rather plain, but that might have to do with budget. Inception looked excellent with no annoyingly obvious CGI and ridiculous motion smear/blur after effects or trendy color tweaking - and judging by the trailer, The Dark Knight Rises really looks awesome. Nolan by now seems to have the budget to keep CGI to a minimum and to the highest standards. Sure: budget alone doesn't make a movie great. I like his idea to stick to the traditional movie look with no obvious "enhancements" (he talkes about it in detail in interviews). I checked on IMDB: Nolan still works with real film (IMAX and 35mm Panavision for "D.K.Rises"). I believe in his case it is not about being stuck in the past - he simply prefers the look of real film and large formats. Perhaps he wants to be the Anti-Cameron regarding technology? Well in his case it works for me. Might be a matter of a year or two though until he will go digital.... who knows?
