It's from the early 70's, though all prints were thought to be lost until a few years ago, where the original negative was found in bins marked "for destruction" in Los Angeles. A digitally restored version was shown at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival on 15 May 2009 when it was selected as a Cannes Classic title by the head of the department, Martin Scorsese.

Highly recommended. It's truly a forgotten classic, with an edge that still resonates today (apparently there were walk-outs during the infamous kangaroo hunt scene when it screened in Cannes in 2009). It's available on blu-ray in Australia and looks fantastic. Region free too so it's definitely worth tracking down a copy. |
