 Re: LOCKOUT
Hard to believe they messed this up. The premise was ripe to produce a film that is pure dumb fun.

 Re: LOCKOUT
Looks like we all whiffed on Lockout; for my part, I was expecting it to be lackluster but not borderline awful. Surely anything with Guy Pearce should have been, at the very least, watchable if not moderately entertaining. Hopefully, he'll do something soon that will remind us of the actor who mesmerized us in films like L.A. Confidential and Memento and get himself out of this rut.

"Pretty images aside" touché. Everything about this sounded great, from the premise to the fact it features two actors I greatly respect (Pearce and Stormare). Might file this under "post drinking cinema visit".

 Re: LOCKOUT
Why are 9/10 science fiction movies big, loud and dumb? No other genre gives you the virtually unlimited creative freedom that sci-fi offers. Further, there are hundreds if not thousands of books with excellent stories just waiting for movie adaptions. Seems like most Hollywood writers, directors and producers don't have any genuine affection for sci-fi, so they just brain fart another Transformer movie and rake in the cash. The whole genre is just one giant missed opportunity for high concept intellectual story-telling.

 Re: LOCKOUT
I really hope Prometheus lives up to the awesome trailers they’ve released for it. It’s been a while since Ridley Scott has done something that really blew me away, but man oh man, does that look sweet. I think if a movie like that can find success (and if it is a genuinely clever, well-made movie like the trailers suggest) we’ll get more sci-fi movies that aren’t mindless action. Personally I’d love to more movies like Moon, but I also know that movies like that require a very specific set of circumstances to be made. Honestly though? I’m generally fine with big dumb action flicks like Lockout where it at least seems self-aware of how silly it is. It’s just that in this case; it happens to be science fiction, like someone wanted to remake Escape from New York (or should I say L.A since it’s more ridiculous?) but set it in space. It’s just a shame that –from what I’ve seen– it’s not a particularly good example of that kind of film.

 Re: LOCKOUT
Saw this tonight, it was a pretty decent cross between Fortress 2 and Escape From L.A. Guy Pearce was excellent as Snow, he fits right into the action hero mold, I loved the banter between him and Maggie Grace, and Stormare was great as always, at this point I don't think he's capable of giving a bad performance in anything. The action was pretty decent, there weren't too many Bourne-esque shaky-cam scenes(though the motorcycle chase was a bit dizzying) I was dissapointed there wasn't a final showdown with the bad guys, which is pretty much a prerequisite for any Die-Hard rip-off, my main issue with the film was the whole "briefcase" subplot, it dosen't really serve much of a purpose or add anything to the film.

 Re: LOCKOUT
Agree with everything you said Vexy. On that note, am I the only one who thought this was a neutuered scifi version of "Air force One?"
